Are you going to the Grand Canyon over the Fourth of July? If you go to the National Park, you really need to take a scenic bus tour of the canyon, but book your seats early because they are so popular they sell out fast.

Bus tours of the Grand Canyon depart daily from Las Vegas and Phoenix, even on holidays. Both cities offer fantastic tours that will provide you with a day of fun adventure.

Bus Tours From Phoenix

Travelers coming from Arizona's Valley of the Sun (Phoenix and the surrounding area) will visit the South Rim. Phoenix folks who want to do the West Rim will need to rent a car because only Vegas bus tours head there.

The bus tour to the South Rim takes you through Sedona where you see amazing red rock buttes and juniper pines. The trip to the National Park is a beautiful and scenic experience. When you get to the Grand Canyon, you will have about three hours to explore the area. You will meet up with your group again in Grand Canyon Village at Bright Angel Lodge where you can enjoy a fantastic meal or snack.

Bus Tours From Las Vegas

If you begin your trip from Vegas, ...
... you have the best of both worlds because you can choose to go to the West Rim or the South Rim. Both rims have their advantages, but I usually suggest the South Rim for travelers looking for spectacular natural beauty; pick the West Rim if you want excitement and adventure.

Tours to both rims drive by majestic Hoover Dam and scenic Lake Mead before reaching their destination. The drive to the South Rim takes 5 hours (it's 270 miles from Vegas), the West Rim is much closer (120 miles) and the trip there takes about 2 hours.

When you go to the West Rim, you can choose a basic bus tour or one that has other adventures added on. The basic tour takes you right to the West Rim. Once you arrive, you'll hop off your bus and have up to three hours to explore the highlights.

The basic version is a great experience, but I suggest booking a deluxe package if you can swing it. By far, the most popular package at the West Rim is one that takes you on a thrilling helicopter ride to the bottom of the canyon followed by a scenic float trip along the Colorado River, as well as access to the chilling glass Skywalk. What a tour!

Of course, you will have great fun if you decide to go to the South Rim instead. You will have about three hours to spend at the Park where you can explore on foot and see points of interest like the Grand Canyon Village.

Book Your Seats Quickly

The Fourth of July is a very busy day at the National Park. That is why you have to get your seats as early as you can. Try to get them at least one week ahead of time.

Even though Independence Day is a major holiday, deals are still available on Grand Canyon motor coach tours. You'll find the best prices on the tour company's website (don't bother with online travel brokers like Priceline, Viator or Expedia ? they'll charge you more). However, you have to complete your purchase on the tour company's website in order to get the Internet rate.

Wrapping Up

Early July is an ideal time to visit the Grand Canyon because the weather is ideal and the views are spectacular. I'm expecting it to be busy, so book your tour well in advance. Keep in mind the tour buses run on a usual schedule on the holiday. People coming from Phoenix will do the South Rim, while Vegas-based travelers can choose between the South and West Rims. Finally, book your seats online & you'll save a chunk of money!
