Welcome back to our four-part article series on the many wonderful benefits of dental implant in NJ. In our previous post – the second installment of the series – dental implant specialists in New Jersey spoke to us about the functional benefits of implants in their ability to allow patients to eat the foods they like and articulate properly in speech. In this article, these specialists shall explain what one can expect from in terms of the longevity of their replacement teeth, as well as why they offer better comfort than traditional bridges and removable dentures.

4. Dental Implants NJ Can Last Decades
If placed by a qualified and experienced surgeon and if you are good about looking after your new teeth, there is no reason they can’t last you 20, 30 years and even longer! Many of the early dental implants placed in the 1980’s are still in function today!
“Longevity is really based upon jawbone health and overall oral health, as ...
... well as the skill with which the procedure was performed,” explains a dental implant specialist in NJ. “If a patient keeps up a good standard of oral hygiene, avoids smoking and other bad habits and goes for regular dental appointments and cleanings, their implants can quite easily last decades.”
The restorative work (the ceramic crown or prosthetic bridge) might need to be redone on the underlying structure, but this again is often controlled by the individual. In other words, don’t go using your teeth to pry open containers or chew ice!
5. Dental Implants Feel Natural and Comfortable
The primary difference between dental implants and all other teeth replacement methods is that they assume the function of both the visible portion of the missing tooth, the crown, AND the root. Traditional bridges rely on the support of the two adjacent healthy teeth while removable dentures rely on their bulk and the support of the underlying gums. In both cases, much damage and discomfort can be caused to the surrounding hard (teeth) and soft tissues (gums and palate) in the mouth.
Dental implants, on the other hand, are inserted in the jawbone at the site of the missing root(s). During healing, the bone tissue actually attaches itself – biologically bonds – to the surface of the implant, integrating the replacement tooth into the structure of the jawbone. What does this have to do with comfort for the patient? A whole lot!
“Dental implants feel more like natural teeth because they work like them,” explain dental implant specialists in New Jersey. “They don’t feel foreign and they certainly don’t move around or press down on the gums like dentures tend to. This eliminates many of the daily challenges denture wearers have to content with, including sore and irritated gums, acute discomfort while eating and a constant self-consciousness that comes with having removable teeth.”
Stay Tuned for Part 4
In the fourth and final installment of this article series, dental implant specialists in New Jersey will tell us more about what it takes to clean and maintain dental implants before finishing off with a look at dental implant costs.
