Considering that bipolar disorder is one of the most commonly diagnosed health conditions in the world, it really only makes sense that you would want to learn more about it and make sure that you are not in fact suffering from it yourself. There are a few ways to tell whether or not you are bipolar, and which you are going to want to learn about here.

Of course you will have to get in to see your doctor for an actual diagnosis, but if you think that you may be bipolar, there are a few symptoms that you are going to want to watch out for.

Symptoms

There are quite a few different symptoms that are associated with the bipolar condition. More than anything, if you find that you are constantly switching dramatically from one mood to the next, say you are thrilled one minute but then really sad and upset the next, then you may be bipolar.

This condition can affect men and women, and even children in some cases. The condition is actually classified as being four different types. There is the Bipolar I, Bipolar II, Cyclothymic Disorder, and then Bipolar Disorder.

If you ever think that you are suffering ...
... from any of these, you need to get in to your doctor right away. They are going to be performing a few tests on you, asking you a few different questions and from this they are going to be able to determine whether or not you are suffering from this condition and even if not, figure out what the problem is.

Treatment

Now if your doctor finds that you are in fact bipolar, they are going to begin working on finding a means of treatment right away. It is important that patients never let their condition go untreated because patients can end up extremely depressed and even suicidal because of the extreme mood changes.

The first thing that your doctor is probably going to suggest is that you start on some medication. Antidepressants are typically used first, to help elevate your mood and get you on a more balanced level. These medications may work within the first week or so, but will not offer their full benefits until up to six weeks after you begin taking them, so remember this and have patience.

You also need to remember that even if you begin experiencing some unfavorable symptoms, you really need to make sure that you don't stop taking your medication abruptly.
