Eczema And Its Causes

Eczema is basically a skin disease. It is the reaction of the skin or inflammation which can be caused due to many reasons. Eczema is of many types and all the forms have serious consequences on the skin. Eczema is normally found in infant and children in comparison to adult around the world. In this disease, the skin becomes dry, itchy, reddened and crack. It affects both male and females equally. It has been found that this disease has been rising in recent years. Eczema is also known as atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema. It is basically a hereditary predisposition thus developing some hypersensitivity reactions like asthma, hay fever. On an average, approximately 80% cases start before the age of 5. There are chances that children who get atopic eczema develop asthma months or years later often known as atopic march. There are many causes of Eczema which are as follows:
Many experts believe that people are born with eczema as it is a genetically inherited disease. However, it can be worsened with exposure to many environmental or external factors like pollen ...
... or internal factors like stress and hormonal levels. Many scientists have conducted studies thus come to the conclusion that the oily barrier of skin is generally reduced in some people with atopic eczema as compared to other normal people. As a result, this lipid barrier helps in preventing water loss. On the other hand, if this lipid barrier is reduced, the person will lose water faster, and the skin will become drier. The immune system cells of people suffering from atopic eczema release a chemical under the skin’s surface that may cause the soreness.
Environmental factors
Some scientists believe some environmental factors are responsible for atopic eczema. These environmental factors cause the body’s immune system to overreact thus causing an allergic reaction. Environmental factors like pollen, house dust mites and pet fur are the reasons that trigger hay fever and asthma.
Hard water
Some scientists believe that hard water is not good for people suffering from eczema. Several experiments are conducted and show that hard water is bad for eczema.
Food
There are certain foods items that cause allergic reactions in people who have sensitive immune systems. These foods are wheat, nuts, soya, cow milk and eggs. It is observed through experiments that about 10% children with atopic eczema are affected by these food items.
Mental stress
Doctors are not exactly sure that mental stress may cause the worsening of symptoms atopic eczema. It has been observed that when a person is under mental stress, atopic eczema is likely to get worse.
Winter
Some people believe that, in winter, their condition gets worse, whereas it is far better in summers.
