Ebooks Vs. Paper Books: Pros And Cons
In this age of technology, eBooks are known to everyone. EBook is simply a book which is in digital form and can be read on a computer, laptop, tablets and eBook readers. There is no doubt that eBooks in India have become more and more popular over the years. And there are many eBooks companies that have come up to provide professional eBook service. However, there are still many loyalists of paper books. The choice of e-books vs. the paper books is an arguable subject. Let us look at the pros and cons of eBooks and paper books.
EBooks:
Pros:
•They are easily readable. Most eBook readers offer zoom functions, text searching, switching easily from one book to another, font resizing and bookmarking is easy.
•They are easy and quick to buy. One can buy them online and download them without having to go to a library.
•They are easily portable. One can carry many books on a single device.
•Note taking is effective. The notes you write ...
... on an eBook are easier to access later and you can erase them if you don’t want them later.
•They are environment friendly. Trees do not have to be cut to produce eBooks.
•The author gets the major portion of the profits.
•They save space. EBooks do not waste shelf space to be stored. Your whole library can be stored on one device thereby saving shelf space.
Cons:
•Although they are cheap but initially eBooks can be a costly proposition as one has to buy an eBook reader.
•EBooks can cause eye strain if long time is spent in front of a computer screen.
•Battery life cannot last forever. You have to recharge your battery of laptop or eBook reader after some point of time.
•One can face problems in eBook formats. There is no universal format. Each and every eBook reader has its own format.
•If you drop or even spill a beverage on an eBook reader, then it can get spoilt forever.
Paper Books:
Pros
•One can obtain a paper book easily as there are bookstores everywhere and even libraries.
•They are portable.
•They don’t need power to function.
•They don’t cause considerable eye strain.
•For an author, there are more chances of hearing about his book since they are published by a publishing house.
Cons:
•Paper Books are not environment friendly.
•They are difficult to replace and can get damaged easily.
•If you have to carry many books then they become heavy and portability can be an issue.
•Most of the money goes to the publishing house than the author.
•Notes made on paper books are permanent. Even erasing pencil marks later becomes untidy.
