The Internet is our best friend and Google is just a click away! There are a plethora of options available for teachers to explore as certified programs to enhance their skills. In the current economic scenario, there is no dearth of Teaching Certification Programs. It is actually the Problem of Plenty. It then becomes a herculean task for a teacher or a school to choose a teaching certificate program that fits the need and the purse. Also, should it be the best program or the program that’s right for me?
Ujjwal Singh, Founder-CEO at The Curriculum Company shares some of the questions that he reflected upon when he decided to sign up for a management immersion program at the distinguished Indian Institute of management, Bangalore (IIMB). He says, ‘after all it will require investment of time and money from your side, so worth thinking this through!’
 Why do I need this program now?
(Will this help immediately in my teaching, will this help me get a promotion, etc)
 What will I get from this program?
(Certification ...
... from a credible body, Practical and useful tools to use, etc)
 How much time, cost and how effective will this program be?
(Short/long duration, in class/travel/distance-ed, expensive/affordable, trainer credentials etc)

The Curriculum Company (TCC), earlier in 2012 had instituted a research project KHOJto understand the implementation of continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) across schools in India. The study also aimed to seek inputs from teachers and observe certain specific challenges faced by them in the classroom. Close to 78% of teacher respondents of the KHOJ survey said that there were huge gaps in the trainings offered by various bodies (internal and external) and the actual outcomes they expected from such engagements. Also these ad-hoc interventions failed to empower for the long term and did not address the problems of teaching effectiveness and different types of learners in India’s classrooms.

The Curriculum Company (TCC), armed with first hand findings from KHOJ and inputs from close to 2000 teacher respondents has created an exciting array of teaching certificate programs, which are practical, relevant and affordable. These programs are designed to empower the teacher and to equip her with skills to deal with 21stcentury learners. TCC’s teacher empowerment programs (TEP) include specific modules on CCE, life skills, classroom management, inquiry based learning, thinking-classrooms, tablet based education (T-learning™), to name a few.
