If you want to learn Russian, then learning Russian online is probably your best choice. Getting a book to help you learn Russian grammar is also useful but you’ll likely find it to be rather tedious and confusing. With their lessons you immediately begin reading Russian Cyrillic, listening to clear Russian audio and begin speaking Russian. It’s almost effortless and the learning becomes almost automatic. They also have some great material presenting Russian grammar from a new perspective.

Another reasonably good website is LingQ. They’re more of a ‘social’ language learning site which can be good but because the material is developed by various members, it’s not a cohesive, straight line learning approach like with eLearnRussian. There’s lots of good free material for learning Russian there, from beginner to advanced. It also helps you keep track of Russian vocabulary as you learn it.

I haven’t found many good videos for learning Russian on YouTube or elsewhere, but there are many Russian movies online and listening to Russian radio although difficult is enjoyable and gets you into the rhythm of Russian conversation. Russian multiks or animations are also excellent and many of them also have Russian subtitles and English subtitles.

It certainly takes time and effort to learn Russian but it can be enjoyable and rewarding and with a wide range of online resources for learning Russian, what are you waiting for?!!
