Philippines Sets Minimum Salary Of $400 For Maids Going To Uae

The Philippines government has established strict terms and conditions for sending domestic helpers to the UAE like in Saudi Arabia, specifying its housemaids have to be paid a minimum salary of US$400(Dh 1470) per month and should be given no less than eight hours break each day.
The Philippine embassy communicated its government’s conditions to agencies for maids in Dubai and other parts of UAE during a recent meeting in Abu Dhabi. It warned that those agents would be blacklisted who violated those regulations.
Responding to such a resolution, the UAE establishments said that they would not agree to these regulations and emphasized that, domestic helpers coming from any country must be employed according to the official work agreement implemented by the UAE government.
The embassy asked housemaid agencies in Dubai and other places to inform them as soon as a Filipino maid comes to the UAE to accept a job so that they can hand her the mandatory documents.
The embassy also added that employers have to give a separate ...
... room to the maid and must be given a rest of a minimum eight hours.
The embassy also emphasized that the housemaid must not be given any work out of her employer’s residence that is listed in the employment agreement. It also added that the employer of the maid should permit her to contact her family at home and the embassy whenever she wants. Moreover the employers are not permitted to renew the housemaid’s agreement or transfer her sponsorship to anyone else without prior approval by the embassy.
Sponsors breaching terms will be liable to fines as described by the laws governing the employment of Filipino domestic helpers. And if the employer rejects to give her the pay fixed in the new contract, then the housemaid will be expelled to her country. Again the housemaid must be between 18-23 years old and any agency for maids in Dubai defying that limit would be blacklisted.
An official from the UAE interior ministry says that any contract signed by a foreign consulate in the UAE is illegal. He adds that the ministry of interior has a combined job agreement for domestic helpers coming to the UAE clearly outlined terms which assures both the rights of employees and employers. He also says that they have not fixed any salary for domestic helpers and any other contract would not be obliging.
