Sometimes you just want ultimate privacy. And that’s where private-island resorts come into their own. For our luxury travel magazine we asked leading travel writers for their pick of places to revel in splendid isolation and here are top 5 resorts they have come up with:

Song Saa, Cambodia

Style and sustainability make perfect bedpartners at Song Saa, a collection of 27 thatch-roof villas slung across a petite private island in Cambodia’s untouched Koh Rong archipelago. In actual fact, the freshly minted resort occupies two islands, Koh Ouen and Koh Bong—the former home to the environmentally minded accommodations, the latter webbed with jungle tracks and lookouts and, in the near future, treehouse-style spa villas.

Jumby Bay, Antigua

Just two miles off the Antiguan coastline, it lies like a nondescript ...
... smudge against the vivid blue of the cloudless Caribbean sky. But as the private boat transfer draws you closer, it soon becomes apparent that first impressions are not always what they seem. At 300 acres, Jumby is not so mini after all. Just 40 rooms and suites at the resort run by Rosewood hug the picturesque coastline, surrounded by tropical gardens. The only way around is by golf buggy or bikes, which come supplied. Cycle inland and the winding paths take you past jaw-dropping mansions, sprawling amid tennis courts and infinity pools. These are the private residences of those who call Jumby Bay home—Lord Sainsbury, author Ken Follett and Dolce & Gabbana among them. Collectively, those with property here own the island, and development has been capped at 56 residences to safeguard Jumby’s beauty, privacy and exclusivity.

Laucala Island, Fiji

Situated in Fiji’s far-flung Vanua Levu archipelago, Laucala is the brainchild of the reclusive Austrian Croesus and Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz who purchased the former cattle, coconut and copra plantation, which once belonged to the late publishing tycoon Malcolm Forbes, in 2002 and spent the next six years enlivening it as a South Pacific hideaway unlike any other. Today, among the dense volcanic flora, fauna and ferns that predominate the natural setting, 25 commodious timber and thatched villas, replete with the latest mod cons and their own private pools, await discerning guests along with no fewer than five fully staffed restaurants and bars.

There are many more private island resorts listed by our luxury travel magazine like Vamizi in Mozambique, The Naka Island Resort and Spa in Phuket, Thailand, Peter Island Resort in British Virgin Islands where you can spend quality time with your loved ones away from the hustle bustle of city life.
