Being unique and being able to do something which people know little about, gives you an edge above the others.
One such new and unique degree introduced by The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies located in Dehradun is B. Tech in Power System Engineering. This is a full time engineering degree course having duration of four years. Power System Engineering is a branch of electrical engineering and deals with all aspect related to electrical power. This involves generation of power, transmission of power and distribution of power.
Obviously this also includes the study of all equipment like motors, turbines, generators and transformers which are involved in the three aforementioned processes. Aircraft and electrical railway circuits also fall under this.
Power System Engineering Courses ...
... at the UPES have been designed keeping in mind the modern day requirements where complicated electrical circuits and networks have become common.
The entire program is divided into eight semesters. To start with, the first semester covers all the basics subjects required for the field of power systems. This semester includes physics, mathematics, chemistry, mechanics, and computer sciences and also related practical laboratory work. Additional subjects in this semester are environmental studies and communication workshop. In the second semester, students are introduced to deeper aspects of these subjects, along with more subjects like computer programming languages and engineering graphics. Third and fourth semesters, includes detailed studies about mechanics and electronics. With the fifth semester, the subjects about power energy are introduced. Students also have to do a minor project in this semester. In the seventh and eighth semester, students have to undertake elective subjects where they can select subjects of their choice and interest. Students can select these subjects keeping in mind any specific area of industry that they plan to enter. Thus every student can decide based on his or her liking.
