Machu Picchu, the seventh wonder of the world draws thousands of visitors every year. You will get a feel of paradise with beautiful scenery of mountains, lush cloud forest and eye catching mix of Inca paving stones, tunnels and ruins. It is one of the most popular treks in South America which has been rated as the top five treks in the world.

The Inca trail passes across a 125 square mile of national park known as Machu Picchu Historical Sanctuary. During your hiking you will see extraordinary nature as well as manmade sights such as dazzling mountain, exotic animals and vegetation, Inca ruins and cloud forest vistas. Over 250 species of orchids have been counted in this sanctuary.

The Inca trail for 26 miles will be the unforgettable journey to the lost city of Incas. There are two way to hike to Machu Picchu. You can take either the traditional way which is for 4 days ...
... and 3 nights with three beautiful mountain passes or you can also go for 2 days and 1 night trial as part of a more accessible. New hikers can also take 1 day trek which covers the last part of the trail. It is better to hike with a group arranged by an officially licensed tour agency rather than organizing your own group which can be expensive. During a high season, hiking in Machu Picchu will not remain silent and lonely walk in the cloud. You might be accompanied with groups both in front and behind you.

The hiking trial goes from mountain scenery, fast rushing rivers, amazing cloud forest and Inca ruins. The hiking begins at Qorihuayrachina near Ollantaytamb. The 26 miles route passes three wonderful mountains including "Dead Women's Pass" at the altitude of 13,800 feet. At the early sunrise most of the hikers reach the ruins of Machu Picchu.

The second day trial is being promoted as "Sacred Trail" by authorities. The path rises to an elevation of 9,020 feet. It is reasonable if you are lacking on time and fitness as it's the easy climb to Huinay Huayna. Then down to the Machu Picchu. The mini trial begins with beautiful scenery of mountains and ruins after you cross almost 4 miles away from Machu Picchu. You can spend a night at Huinay Huayna. Regulations have become stringent about the hiking in order make a trial user friendly and cleaner.

Cold and wet weather can be a big challenge for hikers. Therefore you must carry a solid bag pack and comfortable waterproof hiking boots. Also do not forget survival kit, compass, headlamp, few medicine and sun block. Hikers should carefully choose their hiking dates. The dry season which is June and October are the most crowed time however with the excellent weather. December to march slightly wet for all hikers. February is the least appealing month for hiking due to the excessive rain. The most suitable month for Inca Trail Machu Picchu tour is May till September. Above all, you should respect the beauty, ancient trail and the environment in Machu Picchu.
