Renault Kangoo 1.5 DCi Engine Reviewed
The Renault Kangoo Maxi was introduced back in 2008. With the addition of the Maxi, the line-up counts three models, but this one is with a longer wheelbase. Renault offers this solid freight carrier in three different wheelbase, which is pretty strange for vans in this segment of market. The new Maxi, with standard roof height and larger load area, offers more cargo room than the standard wheelbase Kangoo and even more space than the Kangoo Compact with shorter wheelbase. The length of the cargo bed is increased and now it boasts 6.9 feet – larger than the standard Kangoo by 1.3 feet – which can further be increased to a 9.5 feet, if the passenger seats are folded down flat. The Kangoo Maxi has a peak freight capacity of 800kg and it weighs a total of 2.2 tonnes, it is also capable of hauling a 1,050kg broken trailer.
As a standard, it has a sliding near side load bay door; there is an option of an offside sliding door also available. On most of the road surfaces, it remains stable because of longer wheelbase. Undoubtedly, it is much more compliant to the bumps than of ...
... its stable-mate, the Renault Kangoo Compact. The insulation is suppressing the noises very well and the ample response of the steering makes the handling predictable and safer. The five speed gearbox makes the gear change a bit notch and clunky, which is somewhat, not very impressive. Whereas, the Kangoo’s 105bhp variant comes with a six speed gearbox. The weird hand brake lever fitted into all the Kangoo’s is, by some means, not up to the scratch. The Renault – as the gear shift for an automatic gearbox - has employed a horizontal bar instead, with a button at its one end that releases the anchors.
According to the Renault, these changes are carried out to minimise the strain on the driver’s wrist. The chances are fairly bright that it may be; an effort to be different. On the brighter side, the cabin for Kangoo is brilliantly capacious, offering a handful space for all the bits and pieces, the drivers have to carry along. This model comes equipped with air conditioning, cruise control, rear parking sensors, a Carmine Tom-tom satellite navigation and an offside sliding door. The Renault Kangoo engines include one petrol and three state of the art diesel engines. The Renault Kangoo petrol engine is a 110bhp 1.6-litre 16-valve, which produces 148Nm of torque and CO2 emissions are 186g/km.
The acceleration from 0 to 62mph returns the value of 13 seconds and the returned joint economy is 29.7mpg. The Renault Kangoo diesel engines are offered in: a 70bhp 1.5-litre dCi which produces 185Nm torque. The sprint to 62mph takes 20.3 seconds and the joint economy is 45.2mpg. The emissions are only 140g/km. Then the other one is: an 85bhp 1.5-litre dCi which produces 200Nm torque. The sprint to 62mph takes 16 seconds and the joint economy is 44.3mpg. The emissions are only 137g/km. And the last one is: a 105bhp 1.5-litre dCi which produces 240Nm torque. The sprint to 62mph takes 13.2 seconds and the combined economy is 41.2mpg. The emissions are only 147g/km.
