Today Different Kinds Of Jewellery Are Available In Market
Jewellery is a familiar word and we all know the importance of it, especially in the lives of any woman. Though it is worn by men also but it is closer to women heart. Now, what is antique jewellery? In simple term it refers to the jewel which is their in the family for ages and handed down to one generation to another and kept as an heirloom. In other words one can say that jewellery which is their for more than seventy eighty years, rather hundred years can be termed as antique. It may be previously worn by someone or it may be unused. It is basically the jewellery which is made in earlier years.
AS antique jewellery is there for decades it includes many era rather one can say historic era and the jewellery of particular era is named accordingly. These era being named as Georgian, Early Victoria, Mid Victoria, Late Victoria , Art & Craft , Art Nouveau etc. The designs in all these periods defer from each other and one can see the influence of that time in this jewellery. Antique jewellery includes every kind of jewellery that is to be worn or used for any other similar purpose but antique diamond earrings and antique platinum rings are specially sought for. The design in each era is different like jewellery in Georgian era is influenced by nature and you would find the design of leaves, birds etc whereas in Victorian era you would find designs featuring precious stones and grandeur. Art and craft jewellery basically refers to intricate designs whereas Art Nouveau is romantic. Likewise retro is the term often used for colourful and bold designs like big cocktail rings etc. The term vintage jewellery is also referred to for old but not that old that as antique. Any items are considered vintage if they are more than fifty years and are no longer available, hence likewise jewellery.
The material used in making jewellery is of various types and it also varies according to trend. Earlier precious metals were used in making jewellery like gold, silver, platinum along with diamonds and other precious stones like ruby, emerald, sapphire etc. Alloys are also used in making jewelleries. Nowadays as the prices of precious metals are very high, people are using other metals and semi precious stones also which are not so costly and are affordable. Vintage jewellery is mainly used for wearing it is also used for piercing. Many a times people used it show their status. Many times jewellery designs are created to show that the person belongs to a certain group or is following certain tradition. Nowadays sometimes jewelleries are oxidised and buried in a pot of clay to give it a dull finish so that it looks like antique
