Panjim – The City That Never Floods

Panjim, capital city of Goa is situated on the shoreline of the Mandovi estuary of northern Goa. The landscape of the Panjim looks beautiful with hills, riverside walkway, Latin styled houses and streets with acacia and gulmohar trees, Portuguese styled churches and the paved streets of the city. The city has many tourist attractions like the museum, churches, sanctuary, beaches and many more.
Archaeological museum or the Christian Art museum has collections portraying the Portuguese rule in Goa. Some of the interesting collections of the museum include the Idol of Lord Vishnu along with Lakhsmi and Garuda, arts and crafts of Goa, gold items studded with precious gems, pictures of St. Francis Xavier, items dig out from Chandnor, stone tools used during the Paleolithic era, microliths of Neolithic era and images made of ivory.
18th June Road is one of the popular shopping areas of Panjim. It is the place to find the CD’s of the most admired Konkani music of Goa.

... UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the nation. The body of St.Francis Xavier is placed in the church. Huge numbers of tourists visit the church to view the body that is displayed once in every ten years. Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is another popular church in the city. The church with marble statues and a golden bell of the church built in Baroque style looks very attractive.
The Idalcao Palace of Goa of Adil Shah that was built in 16th century is currently being used as a Secretariat. Passport office and other administrative offices are also located in the palace. Largo da Igreja situated in the vicinity of the secretariat is the main area of the Panjim and is worth visiting. For staying you can find good hotels in Panjim.
Jama Masjid located in Sanguem is an ancient mosque of the Goa. The four attractive minars and the two wonderful towers on either side of the mosque entrance give a stunning look to the mosque.
Miramar beach is an ideal spot in the Panjim to spend a joyful evening. Aguda fort can be seen from the beach. Activities like jet skiing, fishing, water surfing and scuba diving can be enjoyed at the beach.
Bird lovers can view migratory birds like gulls and plovers in the beach area during the winter season. Salim Ali bird sanctuary is another place for bird lovers to watch different species of birds and enjoy the sounds of gushing water streams.
December to February during which the weather remains pleasant is the right time to visit Panjim. It is also the time to enjoy beach festivals celebrated during Christmas and New Year Eve.
