Individual freedom is expanding in Cuba and with it the ambitions of the youth. The government’s initiative in carrying out economic and agricultural reforms is bearing fruit as the hitherto restless youth of this gorgeous island nation, are now seeking and finding work avenues that were so far closed to them.

Cuban youth is highly educated (with the country having a statistics of almost 100% literacy rate) and talented. They are rooted in cultural values and yet are eager to embrace the world in all its diversity. They are especially fascinated by technological and scientific advances and love to have various hi-tech gadgets on their fingertips.

In culturally rich Cuba, music, dance and creative performances have been an integral part of day-to-day life. Cubans are wonderful dancers and musicians and performers. Cuban business and cultural enterprises are now exploring the possibilities of finding fruitful occupations for the youth by engaging all the multi-faceted talents that they have to offer.

The private sector in Cuba is emerging with aplomb as more freedoms are being enjoyed. Cubans have been granted ...
... the opportunity to sell and purchase homes and cars; they can now utilize facilities in hotels that were previously meant only for foreign tourists and restaurants, beauty salons and other small businesses like taxi services have much greater autonomy.

Cuban economy has depended largely on the food production and export industry including seafood, sugar, citrus and tobacco products, and rum. The manufacturing of industrial products has been another revenue generator. Now the Cuban government has carried out several economic and agricultural reforms to accelerate private-sector growth. The reforms are aimed at maintaining the socialist economic model while helping to resolve issues of pilfering, heavy indebtedness, poor retail services and economic stagnation.

From a time in the not so recent past when most Cubans drew salaries from the government, they are now increasingly being employed in the private sector. The private sector consists of both Cuban enterprises and businesses opened by foreigners. The young Cuban is talented and restless to achieve his/her maximum potential.

This restlessness also makes Cubans look for opportunities outside their country. Many professionals are eager to explore their talents as photographers, artists, carpenters, designers, musicians, dancers, taxi drivers, seamstresses and performers. They want to showcase their skills to the world at large and keep a constant look out for opportunities to gain a world stage. Private enterprise has become especially lucrative in their eyes since government salaries were cut down.

Cuba advertising has usually only focused on the cultural aspects of a warm people who believe in live and let live. The Cuban song and dance and its cigar are the stuff of beautiful films; but there is much more to Cuba than the popular cultural depictions. Cuba is opening; opportunities for investment for foreign entities is increasing and along with it employment avenues. Cuban professionals are ready to work in corporate organizations abroad. They just need the right opportunity. The new Cuba is best represented by the ambitions of its youth.
