Using Rss For Your Great Content Stream
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an important tool to maximize interaction, loyalty and brand name awareness.
If your Search Engine Optimization process is resulting in great rankings, it is more than likely that you have a good steady stream of engaging and relevant content. Now that you've spent so much time and money getting the visitor to the site, you want them to remain aware and at the forefront of their minds over a long period of time.
Consider what one of my colleagues calls the inherent Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) that we all experience due to the constant influx of email, text messages, etc bombarding our eyes all day. Most everyone has a group of websites and blogs that are visited regularly or semi-regularly, at least when we remember to come back to them. With RSS, and more importantly, making it easy for the visitor to subscribe to an RSS Feed for your content, you can maximize your consistent exposure.
RSS allows anyone to receive regular content from your website every time the website is updated with new content. This is obviously convenient because the subscriber has an online ...
... assistant that constantly updates the content as changes occur. This is an RSS Reader which is widely available and free. I use iGoogle to add RSS feeds for content sites that I like to remain abreast of. An RSS Reader will scan for new content on a very regular basis and deliver it straight to you. You can get all updates to all sites you monitor sent directly to your email. If you have your email rules setup properly, your incoming content can go directly to the email folder you wish; so you have a readymade online newsstand, for instance.
You can subscribe to our RSS feed by simply clicking on the orange icon on this webpage. You can do that for any website that offers an RSS feed and many websites do.
For you as a website owner, this merely extends your reach in important ways. More stickiness for visitors that have already visited your site but also more activity via RSS is monitored by the Google - always a strong positive for excellent search engine rankings. RSS is important for any successful SEO strategy.
As Optimum7 always emphasizes, all of this is great, however, it will mean virtually nothing without great content! Without a steady, consistent stream of unique (non-duplicate), relevant content you will not be popular with the Search Engines, and even less so, for human beings. As with all other media, you must offer engaging and relevant content to generate great results. Just consider what you would do if you turned on ESPN and the only thing you ever found there was Bull Fighting in Mexico; or if you turned on the Weather Channel and you saw nothing but infomercials. The same is true for your website. Clearly, there is no magic here it comes down to content text, video, audio, tutorials, customer feedback, referrals, case studies, recommendations, white papers, press releases. RSS leverages the content to maximize engagement and further push rankings for all of your relevant and converting terms on the search engines.
If you do not offer RSS on your site, you are missing significant opportunities. Your SEO Company should be emphasizing this, almost in the same breath as content.
