The reputation that you create for yourself through the course of your life has a very important role to play.

The reputation that you create for yourself through the course of your life has a very important role to play. It is true that a person is judged on the basis of his reputation in the eyes of the people around him. A person forms a reputation on the basis of his good or bad deeds. Both a good and a bad deed are going to have an impact on your reputation. Nobody wants to be judged by for the mistakes they might have committed as it is the easiest form of defamation of character.

Defamation of character ruins a person’s life. They might challenge a person’s relationships and might also cause his position at his workplace to be judged. Defamation, whether in the form of libel or slander is not a temporary detail that can be done away with easily. In fact, it is something that stays with a person for the rest of his life. Going by the fact that the statements, either verbal or written are defamatory in nature no one would want them to be stuck to their image. Damage control is helpful, but not when ...
... a person’s reputation has already been sabotaged.

Democratic countries offer their citizens the power of the press. This role is extremely powerful as it gives a person the access to the tool of the media. The press is a powerful tool but it is used sometimes also abused by its users. The press is often the tool that is used for defamation of character. Since the press, both online and print are such a powerful media, making defamatory comments against a person through it can be disastrous. In such a situation, attempting to erase defamatory comments in the print or the online media is the only viable solution. Defamation through the medium of the print media is difficult to nullify as compared to that of the online media.

Some of the prominent areas that see defamation of character in the online space are cheating in relationships and professional spheres. People who are caught red-handed are conspired against through certain sites as a way to warn and ward off trouble in the event of contact with the person. The situation turns from minor to major if the statements or comments made against a person are not true. If not tended to or removed as soon as possible it could cause a person’s reputation to suffer in the long run.

Due to advances in the online media arena and the need to save a person from defamation of character, there have been the developments of sites that help a person get rid of defamation against him online. Websites will review online defamation and check the authenticity of it. If the posts are considered to be defamatory in nature they will be taken down. The posts will be reviewed by an arbitrator who will be neutral in making their decision. This is extremely helpful and will help save the image and the reputation of a person from being publically defamed.
