Makeup Tips for Teenagers

Spring is approaching spring and for us that means prom season is around the corner. Each year we're bombarded by beautiful starry eyed teenagers who eagerly await their turn for their prom makeovers. They come in from the beauty parlors with their hair fancied up and they depend upon us to fancy up their faces without looking like they're wearing their mother's makeup.

Makeup is designed to enhance the beauty of a woman, and for teenagers this is also true. Many teens are quite versed in the area of wearing lip glosses, but that's about it. Because their skin is young, a more natural and fresh look is always recommended. For the teenager who have blemishes on their face as a result of acne, a natural look is still recommended, but with a focus on covering her blemishes without looking like she's wearing makeup.

Here are the follow-up makeup tips given to all of prom beauties and their Moms just before leaving for their proms.

Tip #1: Apply sparingly. It is not necessary to apply layers upon layers of makeup unless you're on the runway. It not only looks unnatural, ...
... but it robs you of that youthful glow that comes with being a teenager.

Tip #2: Wearing Foundation. Depending on the age, a teenager can certainly wear foundation. A 13-year old is good with just some lip gloss, whereas a 17-year old can wear a light foundation. Many of our teenagers always want to take with them our Jojoba Foundation because it looks like they're just wearing a good moisturizer and their Moms absolutely love it.

Tip #3: Wearing Powder. Many teenagers are prone to breakouts and skin irritations, and so, does that mean they should not wear anything? Not really. Teenagers can give themselves a fresh look by wearing an oil-free, fragrance free powder that will not add much color to their skin. This is especially true in the hot muggy days of summer when teenagers are out of school, and just want to have fun.

Tips #6: Never share your makeup. Teenagers tend to want to share everything with their friends, including their makeup. However, it is never a good idea to share your makeup due to the risk of infection. This is especially true with eyeliners and mascaras. Let your friends get their own makeup.

Tips #7: Don't ever go to sleep with makeup on. While you sleep your skin needs to breathe. Breakouts are less likely because your pores will not get clogged from stale makeup left on your face overnight. Use a makeup remover and remove all traces of makeup from your skin. Then apply a gentle cleanser to clean your skin before going to bed.

Tips #8: Visit a makeup counter. Pay a visit to a makeup counter and get your makeup done for your special occasions like proms, sweet sixteen birthday parties, etc. A good makeup artist should be able to give you a simple but elegant natural look for your occasion without looking heavily made up. For an everyday look, a tinted lip gloss and neutral face powder is all you need.

Tip #9: Wearing Mascara. Mascaras are readily available for teenagers and it seems like they can't stay away from it. Wearing it is an option that many opt for. However instead of the traditional black, brown might be a better option as it extends their lashes without drawing too much attention to their eyes. A teenager at the tender age of thirteen, who's tempted to try it, can opt for clear mascara. It will still extend her lashes and no one has to know she's wearing it.

Tip #10: Wearing Eyeshadow

These days telling a teenager not to wear eyeshadow is like talking to the wall. Just go down to the local drug store and there they are, experimenting with every available color they can get their hands on. Of course their mother's approach may make the difference between their choices of colors, and whether they wear it at all. Soft colors like the subtle blues and greens look great on teenagers. Soft medium pinks also look great by adding a hint of color without them having to look made up.
