Have you figured it out yet? What, you may ask? What the revolution is and what these listed items represent?

The revolution involves the liberation of the individual to actually control their lives through small and large changes in technology and services. Through every advance, every device, every software package, every application and every medium the individual has gained more and more control of exactly if, how, when and with whom ...
... they will interact.

Prior to the 1970's, when the phone rang you were compelled to answer it. When the best show on TV was on or a sporting event, you had to stay glued to the TV and regulate your bathroom breaks. Your life would be shaped by when the phone rang, when a radio or TV broadcast was being shown. You were tethered to the phone cord in the wall as well. You were subject completely to advertising and commercialism that only came at you and you were rarely interested because it was rarely relevant to what was on your mind at the time or just your life in general.

All of this was still part of the technological revolution, however. Never before were so many people connecting via copper wire, radio waves and television transmissions. Newspapers and magazines flourished to provide general and targeted information for individuals. However, it was all laden with advertising and increasingly so to this very day.

Another common characteristic of these earlier times was the languishing levels of productivity and efficiency. We had this new technology but it just plain didn't make us any more productive in a measurable way.

However, the answering machine allowed us to never miss a call and so did voice mail later. You could also screen the incoming calls and decide who should be called back (Caller ID). Ah, more relevant time on the phone. Well, at least a little. VCR's allowed us to start multi-tasking. Watch one show while another is recording. Just record shows and watch it on your schedule rather than the network's schedule. Ah, and we can fast forward through those irrelevant and annoying commercials.

The Sony Walkman gave us mobility to listen to our music. IPod gave us the same thing with even more control to actually control what we listen to and in what order we listen to them. Portability and control of content were the sizzling attractions.

Through all of this, we were bombarded on TV, Radio and the Print Media with relentless, annoying advertising. Enter the Internet. Enter Search. Enter Google. The game has changed forever.

The individual has gained a new level of control. The internet makes it all possible as now we are all connected through one common medium available through multiple connective technologies. Search Engines provide the indexing tools to achieve fast and relevant results. Now the individual can decide when he / she needs information and when it is needed; when to buy and when to sell, who to buy from, when to initiate contact with a content provider, whether it be a publisher, a product or service provider, a professional or a contractor. The individual now decides when. The individual decides if. The individual decides who.

Internet Marketing and SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Commercial businesses, Not-For-Profits, Government Agencies, Causes and Cultural Interests were presented with a new challenge, but much more importantly, a terrific opportunity. Since the individual is now the decider and is in much more control of all that goes into the initiation of decision making, those competing for these new empowered individuals know by the data exactly where these individuals will seek this information primarily the first page of Search Engine Results and even more specifically, GOOGLE. It is the processes and sub-specialties within Internet Marketing, Internet Marketing Companies, including those that specialize in SEO that are all about meeting the online searcher at the known common destination page 1. The benefits of success are awe inspiring; to be seen immediately at exactly the correct moment in time that the searcher is actually interested in what you offer. The psychological marketing power of being found at such a precise moment in time has never been achieved before except through sheer coincidence through low-probability of the traditional in-your-face marketing methods.

Social Media

Optimum7 believes that Social Media is really a sub-specialty of SEO. However, what is most important is to understand how Social Media further revolutionizes the power of individuals to make decisions and further control their own lives. Few, if any, really understand the Social Media online. On the surface it is the largest set of chat rooms imaginable. But it has taken the idea of the chat room much further and in powerful ways. As with the internet, search engines and blogs, it is infinitely measurable and completely archived. The individual can choose who they wish to follow and who will follow them (Twitter). You can customize your own circle or network (Linked-In, Twitter, FaceBook).

So how does this further the control and power of the individual? Many books will be written about this. However, let's just take one clear and profound example. Have you ever sought a product or service, but needed proof as to user experience with the product, the company or both? Have you been given references by the seller? Have you been skeptical of the source of the references? Have you looked for online ratings as an alternative but still remain skeptical as to how well these ratings truly reflect on your decision? Now consider having developed and kept up to date with an online network that you have developed trust in; a user group, consumer group, political action group; regardless, a known set of individuals that you share commonality with on some or multiple levels. Now, consider that you have established trust and confidence in these networks and probably with specific individuals and you, yourself are part of this trusted ongoing conversation. Well, here you have a very powerful new world of control to better evaluate information, to assess the opinions and experiences of others and ultimately how they best apply to you and your decisions. This is one very definite benefit that will emerge from Social Media and there will be loads more to come.

The revolution will not be televised! It will be online, it will be social, it will controlled by the individual. This is just as much an opportunity for commercial business and others. Think of it as the power of ideas and ultimate truth and transparency. Search Engines, Social Websites are where the individual will seek your products, services, ideas and more. You need to be there.
