The promise of being able to quit tobacco while continuing to smoke is appealing. That's exactly what e-cigarettes let you do. Instead of puffing on a carcinogen-laced cigarette, you get to smoke a pure vaporized mixture. This mixture has far fewer chemicals than traditional cigarettes. E-cigarette companies want us to believe that c-cigs are much healthier for you. Is it? Let's take a look at what the experts have to say.
Endorsed by the Addiction Journal
In a study conducted by the Addiction journal, researchers found that e-cigs were significantly safer than traditional cigarettes. Specifically, they said:
"Electronic cigarettes can deliver clinically significant amounts of nicotine and reduce cigarette abstinence symptoms and appear to have lower potential for abuse relative to traditional tobacco cigarettes, at least under certain laboratory conditions."
In everyday language, e-cigs can give you the same effect as normal cigarettes, without the same level of symptoms and without the same level of addiction.
The Dangers of Nicotine Poisoning
Although e-cigs strip out the 4,000 other harmful ...
... chemicals, they deliberately leave in the nicotine. In fact, unlike cigarettes, you can choose the nicotine concentration of your cigarette.
Experts agree that although e-cigs are chemically safer than other kinds of cigarettes, they aren't without their risks. Nicotine itself is dangerous and can cause heightened adrenaline and difficulty breathing.
The best way to use e-cigs is to gradually taper down the nicotine levels until you're smoking nicotine-free.
Are E-Cigarettes Safe?
Experts agree: e-cigs are safe, especially in comparison to regular cigarettes. There are far fewer harmful chemicals and it's far less addictive. Experts don't consider them 100% "safe" and don't recommend smoking them for years on end. As a tool for quitting smoking or even as a cigarette replacement, they work exactly as advertised.
