The numbers of Muslim travellers are growing across the world, and so the number of restaurants trying to attract the Muslim travellers is also on the rise. They try to attract the Muslim travellers by offering halal food in their menu. Halal food like halal meat or halal steak can be served to you by anyone employed for the job, it is not necessary that it has to be served by a Muslim only.

So, what exactly is halal food and why is it so beneficial?

Halal is an Arabic word which means “lawful” or “permissible”. It means food that is allowed to be consumed by a Muslim.

According to the holy Quran, there are some things that have been prohibited for the Muslims to consume like-

• Pork

• Blood

• An animal that is not killed by the name of Allah

• Alcohol

So, any food that does not violate the above prohibitions falls under the category of permissible food. This food is free from any remains of pork and constituents of alcohol. With the exclusion of sea food, any food that is not killed in the name of Allah is not halal.

According ...
... to the Islamic guidelines, if a cow or a sheep is not killed in the right way, then that too is prohibited and must not be consumed. The method for slaughtering the animals in the right way is by slitting the front of their throat using a sharp knife.

The slit must be deep and must be slit from the carotid artery, wind pipe, and jugular veins to discharge all the blood from the body. Then the halal meat can be eaten or prepared after all the blood is out from the body. One has to remember while killing the animal, the face of the animal must face the direction of Kiblah and the butcher must slaughter the animal in the name of Allah.

Due to the growing popularity of this kind of food like halal meat and halal steak worldwide, restaurants and butchers are vying to be halal certified. The restaurant must also get their meat supply from certified butchers.

The preparation of the food must also ensure that the things used in preparing the food like spoons, knives, etc. have not been used earlier to prepare non-permissible food. If that has been done, then unless they have been cleaned properly, they must not be used for preparing any kind of food. Chefs must also ensure that alcohol must not be used under any circumstance in the preparation of food.

It takes a lot of effort from restaurants to maintain this standard, but when the demand is on the rise they must be on their toes.
