On October 1, 1862, 150 years ago today, President http://abrahamlincolnbiography.org made his first and only visit to Harpers Ferry. He was enroute to Sharpsburg, Maryland. The Washington newspaper reporters were told the trip was designed to have the president meet with the soldiers to congratulate them for their actions in the recent battle held at Antietam/Sharpsburg on September 17.
