The objective of this study is to provide a realistic analysis of metallocene-catalyzed resins and elastomers, which have expanded from polyethylenes to polyolefin plastomers and elastomers, polypropylenes, EPDMs, and several other minor products. http://www.bharatbook.com/market-research-reports/materials-market-research-report/metallocene-technologies-and-global-markets.html
Several earlier reports over the past decade have often been overly optimistic in terms of projected volumes of products. An objective appraisal of these polymers is needed to properly position these materials in the marketplace. The onset of metallocene polymers has brought forth the concept of single-site catalysis of which metallocenes are just one example, albeit the first commercial success. Furthermore, more traditional polyolefins, most notably LLDPE, which compete with metallocenes, have been made with upgraded conventional Ziegler-Natta catalysis.

Many analysts now group these newer catalyst advances into one-category by naming them “metallocene/single-site” which makes it more difficult to differentiate these two types of products. ...
... To further intensify the competitive scenario, standard Ziegler-Natta LLDPEs continue to effectively compete with these new variants.Major questions to be answered are: what is the current market and short term future of these materials; in what end-use markets are they having an impact; and who are the major companies involved.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This report will cover global markets for the metallocene-catalyzed versions of the following resins/elastomers: LLDPE, HDPE, VLDPE, polypropylene, and EPDM, along with the more recently introduced variants known as polyolefin plastomers (POPs) and polyolefin elastomers (POEs). Important competitive non-metallocene-based resins will also be covered.Major global producers are covered in terms of key trade-named products. Applications of metallocene resins/elastomers will be covered led by films in non-food packaging, non-packaging films, consumer/industrial packaging, flexible food packaging, rigid food packaging, shrink/stretch films, wire/cable, hose/tubing, polymer modification, medical products and automotive products.

Metallocene resin/elastomer producers, including specific trade named products will be covered along with up-to-date information on joint ventures, licensing arrangements, new technologies, and patents. There are challenges in determining which resins/elastomers are metallocene-based especially with elastomers/plastomers in which producers manufacture both standard and metallocene variants sometimes under the same trade name—often at the same production plant. Furthermore, traditional resins/elastomers are often blended with metallocene variants. There are also wide arrays of resins/elastomers, which are specifically marketed as metallocene resins/elastomers by many producers, as well.In addition, Dow Chemical, as one example, produces metallocene plastomers/elastomers based on its Insite single-site catalysis technology, while ExxonMobil Chemical’s metallocene technology is named Exxpol.

METHODOLOGY

Both primary and secondary research methodologies were used in preparing this study. A comprehensive review was undertaken of literature relating to single-site/metallocene-derived polymers, their technology, applications, markets, company involvement and new developments. Unresolved issues were clarified by contact with those involved in the industry.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

This report should be of interest to those companies involved in the global polyolefin business mainly in the polyethylene area but to also include polypropylene producers and polyolefin elastomers/plastomers. Metallocene technology will continue to impact all aspects of the polyolefin business led by LLDPE, but also including LDPE, HDPE, and other variants such as polyolefin elastomers and plastomers, EPDM, VLDPE and polypropylene-based resins.

Other interested groups would include companies involved in the plastic film business in both the food and non-food segments, which include shrink and stretched films along with usage within in the wide spectrum of plastic films.
