Sinhagad Fort At Pune

Sinhagad Fort is a historic attraction which is also one of the most popular places to visit in Pune. It has witnessed some wars in the past and the most notable of them was the 1670’s Battle of Sinhagad. The fort’s dominance is apparent as it sits on the higher elevations of a cliff at a stupendous height of about 1350 m.
This fort is one of those places which have witnessed atrocious carnage and barbarous bloodshed. It may appear mute and quiet but it still gives out echoes of the war cries by the great Maratha leader Tanaji Malusare who was Shivaji’s general commander. For his bravery and audacious display of courage, he was christened as the ‘lion’ of the country, and this fort is often referred to as the ‘Lion Fort’. Its walls, though decadent, still give out that mighty roar which can paralyze your senses and numb your bones.
Under Pune tour packages, the fort can be toured easily. The exact location of the landmark is just around 30 km from the city. One can reach the place easily by hiring a cab or by traveling through a private vehicle. The fort has now got enveloped by untrimmed and untamed ...
... foliage which gives the landmark a very ageing look. The combination of green and brown also heighten the beauty of the region and delight a historian as well as a nature-lover in equal measure.
Sinhagad Fort has two entrances namely the Pune Darwaza and the Kalyan Darwaza. The former lies towards the north-east while the latter lies towards the south-east. You would not be hassled or troubled by its geography, provided you are accompanied by a guide or a tour operator.
The architecture and grandeur of the fort will immediately weigh you down with their massive scale. The walls may look old but they have this impregnable quality which makes today’s swanky modern-day structures look imbecile. Apart from marveling at the indomitable size of the landmark, you can also go for some adventure treks. Most tour packages allow tourists to explore the area through conveniently arranged treks.
Amongst the must-see attractions, the place has Tanaji’s cenotaph and also a memorial of Rajaram (the younger brother of Shivaji). There are some temples as well like the Kali Temple and a statue of Lord Hanuman. You will also be able to spot some military activity since army men often camp at this place.
For its natural beauty and historic allure, Sinhagad Fort must not be missed out from your wish list.
