Questions To Ask Your Wedding Photographers In Vancouver
Wedding photography is very different than most of your other wedding expenses. After all, flowers will eventually wilt and die, the dress will probably never be worn again and the food and cake will be gone the next day. Vancouver wedding photography, on the other hand, is eternal and may be shared with friends, family and even grandchildren one day. The other difference? Photos aren't something you can sample, hear or see beforehand, which makes it all the more important that you do your research prior to hiring a photographer.
Following are the most important questions you want to ask before you hire Vancouver photographers to handle your wedding.
1. Do you have photo sets of an entire wedding I can view?
Ask to see images from a complete wedding or two, rather than just a carefully chosen sample of many events. This is a much better way to judge their work and see how they will photograph the whole spectrum of your big day, from the preparation to the ceremony, reception and the portraits of guests. Proof books are especially helpful because they show photos that haven't been retouched yet.
2. ...
... Do you have references?
If possible, call a few former brides before you make your decision. You want to know if they would recommend the Vancouver wedding photography team to someone else and why, specifically. Did they show up on time? Were the dressed professionally? How did they work? Did wedding guests have anything to say about the photographers?
3. Will I get proofs online?
If your photographer uses film, you should receive negatives. With digital photography, you'll usually get your proofs online, which may be set up on their website or another website so you can get them and share them sooner.
4. Who will be at my wedding?
Find out who will actually shoot your wedding. After all, many Vancouver wedding photography firms or studios may have numerous photographers and they may not even be able to say who will actually be photographing your special day. They should always be able to guarantee your choice of photographer.
5. What is your turnaround time?
Vancouver photographers have wildly varying turnaround times and it's important to ask when your proofs, prints or album will be ready. Remember, a long turnaround time isn't necessarily a deal breaker as editing and touch-ups does take time to get you those perfect images you'll want to share.
6. How many pictures do you take?
An average wedding usually has around 500 exposures but you'll want to know how many you have to choose from in the end. Some Vancouver photographers, for example, may charge per roll.
7. Do you have insurance?
Every vendor at your wedding should have their own liability insurance, including your photographer. After all, remember you may be held liable if someone gets hurt on their equipment if they aren't covered. You may even find that some venues you book for your wedding require this.
8. What happens if you can't make it?
Find out what their back-up plan is if there's an emergency and they're running late or can't make it to your wedding. You should have contact information for the photographer and a back-up from the studio as well as an after-hours number to contact. Make sure you have this the day before to check and make sure everything's running smoothly!
