Weddings and flowers are synonymous to each other. In the early Roman weddings, the brides used to carry herbs under their veils to deflect evil spirits and ensure fertility and faithfulness. In Greece, the ivy was used because these represented enduring love. Being an integral part of weddings, flowers have symbolized beauty, chastity, loyalty and love.

Whether there is a wedding in Egypt, or Bahrain, one can even send flowers to Philippines as the appropriate wedding gift. In England, flowers are an important component in marriage ceremony itself, being carried out by the bride, her flower girls and even the bridesmaid. Strewing of the flowers signifies the happy path of marriage. The flowers can be gifted to celebrate the happiness and the love. This article discusses some of the most famous flowers used in the wedding ceremony.

First are the Calla Lilies. Known as the arum lilies, these flowers are easily available all round the year. They are inexpensive and can retain their moisture even without much water. This makes them ideal as the bride’s bouquet. They are perfect for summer weddings. However, they ...
... can be easily bruised. Another important thing to remember is that their colors should be verified before buying. The callas can fill up more space and can be the ideal choice for the cascading bouquets. Second are the Gardenias. They have a strong aroma and can be used as bouquets and corsages. They are costly and can be floated in shallow bowls. The cut flowers have a life span of a week. It is important to remember that gardenias brown easily with contact and therefore should be used with care. Third are the hydrangeas. There is a wide choice of colors available for the flower. However, they will wilt easily if kept without water. The flowers also show signs of bruising. They are more suitable for the centerpieces. Fourth most common wedding flower is the lilacs. They are available in spring and early summer. They are sensitive to heat and require adequate water to survive. However, their fragrance is soothing and sensual. The fifth most common flower seen in the weddings is the Lily of Valley. They are mostly available in May. Sensitive to heat, water and handling, these flowers are delicate in nature. They wilt easily making them unsuitable for the wedding bouquet or the corsages. Their sweet smell can awaken even the most tired soul. These do not have very long stems; therefore, care should be taken when making bouquets. The sixth most popular flower is the orchid. They are available all around the year. Their price is subject to its variety. These flowers are sensitive to the cold and rough handling. They are resistant to moisture loss and resistant to heat makes them the perfect flowers for the summer marriage ceremony. Another flower most commonly seen in weddings is roses. They have a soothing fragrance and come in beautiful colors. They are not overtly durable or overtly fragile. They are the desirable flowers for boutonnieres. Lastly, the tulips impart their grandeur to a wedding. They are economical for the spring wedding ceremonies. They are vulnerable to heat. However, the flowers continue to grow even after being cut making them suitable for the centerpiece.
Each flower type has their benefits and disadvantages. While some are vulnerable heat, others are susceptible to the cold. There are some flowers that seems to predominant the ceremonies. Sometimes these flowers are also chosen based on the theme and colors used in the ceremony.
