Anyone with impaired vision, whether it is on account of nearsightedness or farsightedness, does need prescription glasses to correct the error. What the glasses basically do is to correct the focal length of the eye lens by imposing another lens between the eye and the object. As a result, the focus, which was forming short of or behind the retina, is shifted on to the retina, thus improving vision. The blur circle which was forming on the retina is eliminated with a clearer picture now forming.

The advent of pinhole glasses has opened up another option as an alternative to the prescription glasses. Pinhole glasses are made of plastic sheets in which pinholes are cast with precision thus making a pattern of pinholes. These sheets are fitted on frames in the same manner as prescription glasses. Maximum light rays are blocked at the plastic sheet and only the direct light rays falling on the pin holes are permitted to enter the eye. Since the number of light rays entering the eyes is minimized to the direct rays only, it ...
... has the effect of reducing the glare and focusing the rays. The blur formed on the retina on account of the divergent rays of light is eliminated and a focused image is formed. These pinhole eyeglasses have been found to be effective by users while working on the computer and also by people who have refractive eye disorders.

Perhaps the biggest advantage of pinhole glasses is that you do not have to keep constantly changing your glasses whenever there is a change in power of the eye and you do not require different sets of glasses for near vision and far vision. Thus the need for bifocal or even trifocal glasses too is eliminated as the same pinholes serve the purpose whether you are viewing a far off object or reading a book. In addition, you do not have to worry about scratches to the lens. Even if they do get scratches, it will in no way impair your vision, as long as the aperture of the pin holes does not get distorted. The only care you have to take is perhaps not to let the pin holes get blocked by dust and grime.

Mike has been writing and publishing articles about health products. He recently came across a website on pinhole glasses which gave information about this old technique of using pinhole glasses for eyesight correction. Mike himself had tried the product and found it quite beneficial. Here's an article about pinhole glasses.
