Wood Laminate Flooring For Your Stairs
After spending a huge sum of money on sprucing up your home decor, there is no point in leaving stairs untouched. Alike the main door or terrace, stairs are also an inherent part of your home and need to be given same amount of consideration in terms of decor. Recently I visited my friend’s home and I was surprised to see the way he decorated his home stairs. Nowadays, laminate flooring is high in demand due to various reasons. First, it is cost effective. Second, its durability makes it a smart choice for covering up the surfaces.
Laminate flooring can be defined as a synthetic flooring product consisting of multiple layers combined together using a unique lamination process. The inner core of laminate is made up of melamine resin and fiber board materials. The best and most distinguishing feature of laminates is that they are made to resemble wood, marble, granite or stone. So, people have the opportunity to choose wood-like flooring at a much lower cost.
If you’ve decided to get wood laminates installed on stairs, you should first determine the exact area ...
... you need to cover. Installing wood laminates is very easy as even you can do it yourself. The stairs the need to be covered should be cleaned up first. Remove all dust, dirt, debris, adhesives or nails that may be present on the stairs, so that the new laminate flooring will stick well to the surface.
You can also choose to use gloss laminate sheets that come in various designs and textures. The best way to get more options is to search for them online as there you can browse through numerous designs. Choose the one that perfectly matches with the existing decor of your home and surroundings. When installing laminate flooring on open stairs, i.e., a stairway with no walls on each side, get a carpenter to do all the finishing. Otherwise, the unfinished edges of the wood laminates will be exposed to view.
To enhance safety, it is advised to glue the laminate flooring on the stairs rather than “floating” it. There should be no foam underlayment be placed under the laminates for the floating effect. It is good to start from the topmost stair and move your way downwards. In this way you can avoid stepping on the newly installed laminates. If you think that adhesive is not adequate for the job, you can consider nailing the laminate flooring. Since nailing can damage the laminate flooring, first check the manufacturer's recommendations.
