Not all lawn service companies and individual practitioners are created equal. There are a large number of services that can be performed on residential and commercial lawns and landscapes, and not every provider offers them or has the experience to perform these jobs correctly. Here’s how to find the best service for your particular property.

Before focusing on what your specific needs are, consider the company itself. (We’ll assume for the sake of this article, it’s a company you’re looking at rather than a single individual who provides these services.) One way to do this is to check out their website and see what they have to say about themselves.

It’s true that anybody can say anything they want about the quality of their services, but perusing a lawn service company’s website can give you much important information. You can often learn how long they’ve been in business, the geography of their service area, pricing, any particular certifications or special skills some/all of the employees have, and more.

You’ll also learn their phone number, so give the prospective service provider ...
... a call. You can tell a lot about how a company views its customers and prospects by the way their representatives talk to you. You definitely want to speak with someone who seems to genuinely care about gaining your business and who is knowledgeable about all the services their company offers.

By this time, if you haven’t learned how long the company has been in business, ask. A lawn and landscape service with just a few years under its belt isn’t necessarily a bad choice, but companies with many years in business have proven that they’re doing something right; otherwise they probably wouldn’t still be in business.

In terms of individual services, you need to find out either through a website or a phone conversation if the company does what you need to have done. Many smaller outfits focus primarily on mowing and maintaining lawns and planting flowers and shrubbery. Larger companies typically provide everything from maintenance, tree trimming and fence installation to fertilizing, mulch applications, re-sodding/re-seeding, full-scale cleanups and the like.

The company you choose should have proven experience in the specific types of tasks that will be required throughout the year for your property. Make sure this is the case before entering into a deal with them.

In summary, when selecting a lawn and landscape company to maintain and work on your property, you want to find a reputable company with the necessary skills and tools to do a great job for you on all the necessary tasks you require. A phone call and a website are good places to start.
