General Know-how For A Prospective Engineering Student
Being one of the most sought after careers in India, engineering serves to be the career stream, which provides employment to numerous people in the country. There are various sub-streams of engineering that are aimed at specialization of students so as to prepare them to work for a particular field of engineering. Unlike the bygone years, the students now have several options to choose from, resulting from the developments that have taken place in science and technology. This is the reason why engineering now offers a wide range of options, such as computer science, information technology, electrical, electronics, aeronautical, industrial, biotech, production engineering etc. Studying engineering opens the way to boundless creativity and ingenuity, along with the numerous challenges that arrive at the same time.
Specifics of an Ideal Engineering Course
Leaving apart the traditional engineering branches, which are mechanical, electrical and civil engineering, there are several other branches for specialization that have cropped up to provide ...
... a variety of options to students. One can now go about opting for B.E. / B.Tech in various disciplines, such as computer science, chemical engineering, environmental science, electronics in communication, marine, production engineering, and many others. The various levels, at which the engineering courses are offered, are undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate level. Usually, for undergraduate courses, passing 10+2 with at least 50% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics is the main criterion for a student to be eligible to get admission in an engineering course. If one opts for a post-graduate course, i.e. M.E./M.Tech, it is essential for the candidate to have completed the bachelor’s degree, while it is essential to have accomplished post-graduation in a relevant subject for pursuing a doctoral course. A candidate has to take an entrance exam, which is conducted at the state as well as the national level. The admissions then take place on the basis of merit.
In colleges or universities of engineering, the students are generally taught lessons through live experiments in laboratories, and practical exposure to industrial work, along with the theoretical knowledge.
The basic parameters that generally students seek before taking admission into a particular engineering college include placements, training, industrial exposure, ranking and rapport of the college among students, reviews associated with the college, etc.
