So you have a £5 budget to buy a work colleague a birthday present. What do you buy them?
Which direction do you go in? Something practical or maybe something humorous? Do not let yourself down by taking the easy way out and getting a gift voucher either! You can do much better than that!!

Be creative! Now I'm not saying turn yourself into Picasso and paint a masterpiece, silly! But things like putting together a little gift goody bag. Shop around, find a shop that is selling 3 for 2 on mini toiletries, add a mini bottle of wine and a chocolate bar and hey presto you have a perfect de-stress kit! Feel free to adapt and tailor it to how you wish, you could add a bottle of real ale instead, you know the ones with peculiar names like slugnacious hop breath! Hmmm, is it a case of the stranger the name the more palatable they are?!
If they have a sense of humour, find out where the nearest joke shop is and go mad! It is amazing how much fun can be had from a whoopee cushion, even if it is a mini version! You may have your doubts, but you just ...

If they are artistic and very protective of their office cup, get them a paint your own mug as their present. That way they can make sure that everyone knows whose mug it is. Be it by simply writing warnings on it, in a considerate tone Please do not use this mug, it belongs to..... or perhaps more likely a touch this mug and I will not be held responsible for the wailing banshee that will be unleashed upon you! Just think no more canteen meltdowns at coffee break! See you are even being so thoughtful towards everyone else at the same time too! Brownie points to you!
If you are the artistic one and not them, then why don't you customise it for them? Paint their beloved pet onto it, write a joke or put the top five things they love the most! The options are endless!! Hey, could be the start of a new career!
How about a novelty key-ring? The choices are countless! Do you often hear popping noises in the office? You start to think you are going crazy and should perhaps cut back on the caffeine. But then you discover your work mate popping bubble-wrap under their desk! You have to admit it is a great way to relieve stress. As they say, Therapy is expensive, Bubble-wrap is cheap. You decide! So you see, even when you have a small budget you can still be big on gift ideas. Don't forget though, if you give them a lottery ticket, make sure they accept it on the proviso that if it wins, you are entitled to half!! I mean could you imagine it if they won!!
