10 Fun Things To Do In Hong Kong
Hong Kong is truly a diverse destination and it's an intersection of cultures. Whether you're staying for a day or a month, you'll have trouble finding time for everything you want to do in this beautiful, non-stop city. Hong Kong really has it all: festivals, great shows, small villages to explore, magnificent temples and the wild side. Here are 10 fun things to do in Hong Kong that'll leave lasting memories long after your trip is over.
1. Visit Victoria Peak
Victoria Peak should be at the top of your list in terms of what to do in Hong Kong. From this famous spot you can look down on the beautiful city and get an amazing panorama of all that is Hong Kong. Hong Kong boasts one of the most beautiful harbors on Earth with a skyline that actually rivals that of Manhattan. Victoria Peak is also very easy to reach by the Peak Tram, the city's 120-year-old railway that leaves the Garden Road terminus.
2. Jumbo Floating Restaurant
The Jumbo Floating Restaurant is definitely one of the must-see destinations in the city and one of the most famous Hong Kong restaurants around. This landmark ...
... took more than four years and millions of dollars to build and has a look reminiscent of a Chinese imperial palace. Sitting right along the shores of Aberdeen, you can reach the restaurant through public transportation or take a taxi to the pier and board the free ferry.
3. Charter a Junk
It's true that most people think of Hong Kong as only a large city but it's really a massive archipelago with more than 260 islands. One of the coolest ways to really explore Hong Kong is through a charter to explore the small deserted coves and coastlines of the area. By the way, "junk" is the term that refers to traditional Chinese fishing boats. Just pack yourself a picnic and some refreshments and set off on an adventure for the day. There are plenty of companies that offer charters, including Traway, Saffron and Jaspas, which also provides beverages, lunch on board the boat and waiter services.
4. Tian Tan Buddha
Sitting high up on a hill above a monastery sits the well-known Tian Tan Buddha, which is a 24-meter tall representation of Lord Guatama. While there are larger Buddha statues out there, this one is made completely out of bronze and weights 202 tons. There's also a massive bell inside the statue that's computer-controlled to ring 108 times every day, which symbolizing escape from the 108 troubles of mankind, according to Buddhism. Inside the podium underneath, you can also view 2-ton each statues of bodhisattvas, a museum with plaques portraying the teachings and life of Buddha and a vegetarian restaurant.
5. Eat at Da Ping Huo
Da Ping Huo isn't just one of the best restaurants in Hong Kong with arguably the greatest Sichuan food, it's also known for its amazing entertainment. Be sure to book a reservation well in advance as the chef and co-owner will sing opera songs from the Sichuan province after you finish your meal.
