6 Diets That Help In Protecting Your Kids Teeth From Cavities
Teaching your kids how to brush and floss everyday will definitely help to ward off those complicated dental appointments down the road. Good dental care is necessary to anyone no matter how old they are, however, when you can instill good habits in the younger stages, you can create healthy habits that will prevent those frequent dreadful dentist office visits. Also, healthy teeth in children will translate to healthy teeth in adults. Typically, cavities happen when your children's diet consists of a large amount of sugar and poor dental hygiene. Foods that are sugary or sticky can cause teeth erosion much quicker than with other foods. Additionally, snacking seems to be a common factor in children's cavities. Avoiding childhood cavities is as simple as proper dental hygiene and a healthy diet.
Maintaining a balanced diet does not simply mean having teeth that are healthy but also a overall healthy body. Consuming the right types of food helps to keep your teeth free of cavities and tooth decay. A healthy diet will supplement your entire body with nutrients which ward off diseases and make your body physically healthy ...
... as well. Tooth decay and cavities can be prevented by limiting your snacks and sugar, but also by following these 6 diet tips below.
1. Limit foods and beverages that carry large amounts of sugar such as soda, cookies and candy. Even fruit juices can be high in sugar so you will need to limit these as well. If your kids have snack time at school, provide them with healthy snacks like fresh fruits, vegetables and cheese rather than packaged snacks that are high in sugar.
2. Read the labels on all packaging to find out the sugar content in them. Use your best judgment when buying products for your children.
3. Limit foods that are sticky and can cling to your kid’s teeth which can cause cavities. Food like raisins are great when it comes to health, however, they often stick to your teeth and can promote dental problems. Encourage your children to drink water after they eat their snacks, especially any food that is sticky like raisins or sugary which will help to reduce the potential of cavities and tooth decay.
4. Provide dried fruits at a bare minimum since they also are sticky and can cling to your kids teeth. Give your children fresh fruits instead like apples which are a natural tooth cleaner in itself.
5. Avoid unhealthy snacks before mealtimes, however, if you must provide snacks, make them healthy and replace sugar snacks with cheese, crackers, nuts, yogurt and carrot sticks which have less acid.
6. If your children must have sugary liquids like sports drinks, juice or soda, teach them not to sip them slowly over long lengths of time as this prolongs the amount of time that acid can attack teeth.
Your children's diet can affect their overall health that can help determine how their body will fight infection. If you are not giving your children particular nutrients, their mouth tissues can become resistant which leaves them more prone to gum or periodontal disease.
