Don't worry about the Volkswagen Sharan, the SEAT Alhambra is mechanically the same, good looking, better value for your money but at the same time just as practical. The Alhambra is solidly engineered and a well built MPV which is low on running costs due to range of efficient and powerful SEAT Alhambra diesel engines. It is an able cruiser although the suspension feels firm on very rough roads. Its agile and accurate steering gives it a smaller feel.

There is a choice of two gearboxes a six-speed manual and a DSG automatic gearbox. The DSG gearbox improves performance and economy. The SEAT Alhambra engine range consists of two units: one 1.4 litre turbocharged and supercharged petrol and a larger 2.0 litre diesel engine. The fastest of the bunch is the 2.0 litre diesel which churns out 168bhp and goes from 0-62mph in 9.5 seconds. The SEAT Alhambra was awarded a five star Euro NCAP crash test rating as well as the highest adult protection rating ever awarded, 97 percent. The SEAT Alhambra feels very solidly built and there are no noises from the dash. The SEAT Alhambra is very much a reliable car and matches the likes of Audi, Volkswagen and Skoda.

The Alhambra's biggest strength is that it is very practical. The cabin feels airy and light and you get seven seats. Furthermore, second and third rows can be folded completely flat. When all the seats are in place the boot is only 267 litres but when the rearmost seats are folded this increases to 1,167 litres. This increases to a whopping 2,297 litres when the second row is folded. However, as is the case in all MPV's, the third row is only made for adults. The good news is that the boot and back doors can be electrified as an option, which makes for an incredibly easy access. Although it is cheaper than the VW Sharan, but it is certainly not the cheapest MPV in the market. Its competitors like Vauxhall Zafira do cost less, but none come close to Alhambra for its economy and practicality.
