Three Things That Should Be Taken Care Of Before You Take Your Dream Vacation
Anticipating leaving for a much-needed vacation to a destination you've been itching to visit is a very exciting and distracting experience. Many times we become so gripped by packing and envisioning the exciting vacation to come that we forget to make certain arrangements that really should be taken of. The house back home and certain aspects of time to come need to be hammered out before you hop on the plane, or you may end up experiencing a load of stress that you hoped to escape by going on the trip!
1. Arrangements For Activities Packages
If you make your travel arrangements through a popular vacation website like Expedia or Travelocity, you may be offered different "activity packages" with your hotel and airfare. Generally these activity packages include discounted reservations on the popular things to do in the area, like snorkeling or parasailing. You may be thinking, "Eh, if we want to do any of these things, we'll just book it when we get there!" This is a mistake. Depending on the popularity of your destination, these activates may fill up fast and you may have to do them at inconvenient times, or fore-go ...
... them altogether! Also remember: if you buy there, you pay much more! Do yourself a favor and book ahead, your stress level will thank you!
2. Arrangements for the House and Pets
When leaving home for any substantial period of time, you need to make sure you have someone looking out for your house while you're gone. This includes such odds and ends as feeding the pets, moving the mail, checking the gas valves and the like. Simply knowing that you have a trusted friend or family member taking care of such things while you're gone will alleviate any pesky thoughts, such as "Is there any chance the stove may be on!?!"
3. Arrangements for Work
All to often, the vacationer makes the deadly mistake of taking some piece of the office with him, telling himself that he'll just "finish that report in the airport" or "on the airplane." Realize that this is a deadly psychological trap to get into. The air port brings with it the hassles of long security lines, your children nagging you for entertainment and countless announcements concerning your flight that you'll need to be paying attention to. This ultimately leads to work not getting done at the pace you had expected, and suddenly you find yourself in the hotel room on a beautiful day telling your bikini-clad wife that you'll be down to the beach "just as soon as you finish this quick report." Don't play this game with yourself, you'll always loose and your vacation will suffer. Do yourself the favor of taking care of any work that needs doing before you leave for your vacation.
