Sites For People Looking For An Arranged Marriage
Many Indians do not fall in love and marry. Instead they opt for arranged marriages. There are many reasons for this. In many cases, a person is too busy with his or her career in order to enter into a full fledged relationship that could mature into a married one. Sometimes a person has grown up in an environment where he or she simply did not have enough prospective mates to form a romantic relationship with. In some cases a person is simply not interested in love marriages and wants to evaluate different factors and then enter into a marital bond. In some cases the families are too conservative to allow romantic relationships to happen or end up in marriage.
So we see, there is a demand for grooms and brides in the Indian set up. In the older times, there used to be people who would bring the news of prospective grooms to the homes of prospective brides and vice versa. These people were called ‘Ghatak’s, and they did this job in exchange for a sum of money. With the advent of technology, people can be reached more easily now. So the next thing that took place of the Ghataks in educated households is ...
... the newspaper. Newspapers have a mass reach, and using that, people would put matrimonial ads with the details of brides or grooms. In Sundays, newspapers have a couple of pages entirely dedicated to matrimonial ads.
When the internet came, Matrimonial Sites started to spawn. On those matrimonial sites you could put up your profile with details on it. The usually required fields involve name, salaries, number of family members, caste, profession, educational background, height etc. You can put up a profile picture if you want to. Many sites allow users to create profiles for free. But there are certain services that matrimonial sites would charge you for. For example, a Tamil Matrimony site may not allow you to send a message to a member of the site. Another marriage matrimony site may not allow you to view the profile pictures if you are using the site for free. There are region specific matrimonial services as well. For example there are the Bengali matrimonial sites, the Tamil matrimony sites, the Punjabi matrimony sites and soon.
Shaadi is considered a big deal in most cultures, and given the family and societal setup in those cultures; it is usually a big deal. None of the above mentioned sources of finding out about prospective grooms and brides has gone out of vogue. There are still people who use the Ghataks, because they cannot read newspapers and neither can they afford to put up ads in the newspapers. The ads appearing in the newspapers are not for them. There are a lot of people who find their matches through newspapers as the papers have long been doing the job. However, among all these media net is the one that allows the user to provide and get the maximum amount of information.
