It seems that nowadays no city or town is safe from economic distress. As the unemployment rate creeps to an all time high, many are in fear of losing their homes. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is no exception. They have not been able to avoid the sharp rise in the rate of foreclosures and many are fearing the worst.

It seems that in cities like Oklahoma City, the only business that is going up is the board up business. Banks and lenders are in the business of making loans and keeping track of investments not managing property. Because of this, so many have little or no staff to oversee the foreclosed homes' upkeep. Yet as foreclosures mount, they have more property than ever before to manage and no ability to do it. That's why ‘board-up' companies have no lack of work. Because banks can't just let the property sit and attract squatters, vandalism and rodents, board up companies are hired to literally board up the house if need be and in some cases keep the property safe and maintained. If the house remains boarded up and falls to disrepair it will make it that much harder to sell and make the neighbors very uneasy. ...
... What used to be a sign of abandonment has now become a sign of the times. It is not uncommon to see a vacant house in an affluent neighborhood. Foreclosures have hit everyone and no matter what tax bracket you fall in to, it seems that everyone lives just within their means. In the event of illness, loss of work, or death the house can be foreclosed on quickly.

Oklahoma City saw their foreclosure rate grow over 50% from the previous year and many were left to pack or be evicted within 24 hours. Although they were hit hard, the nation as a whole took a substantial hit. The foreclosure rate for the country rose over 80% from last year, a number many fear is not done climbing.

If you fear that your home is about to be foreclosed on it is best to contact your bank right away. They may advice for you or be able to direct you to a company that can help. It is also extremely important to contact an attorney so you know your rights and how to proceed in the event your home is foreclosed on. Being proactive can certainly help.
