Thanks to impressive developments by researchers in the field of science and medicine, almost every disease has a cure now. So if you or your loved ones have been facing problems with your bones, or are patients of severe cases of osteoarthritis, then BMC procedure is the thing for you.

What is BMC?

Bone Marrow Concentrate treatment, or BMC treatment as it is popularly known as, is the treatment of orthopedic injuries using the bone marrow of the patient’s body. For those who don’t know what bone marrow is, it is the soft and flexible tissue which fills the hollow interiors of the bones. It plays a vital role in the immune system of the body, which is probably why it is used as a treatment for osteoarthritis and other bone-related diseases.

How does the BMC procedure take place?

The first step in the BMC treatment is to inject local anesthesia in the injured body part of the patient. The doctor then extracts a small amount of the bone marrow, which is then spun vigorously in a centrifuge to obtain a powerful concentrate liquid, which is then injected back into the injured area of the patient’s ...
... body. This concentrate is highly rich in regenerative cells, which provide the much needed boost to not only heal, but also support the re-growth of tissues in the damaged area of the concerned body part.

The after-effects

Many of you would be wondering if BMC procedure has any side-effects or not, and if so, then what are the consequences of such a treatment. Honestly, there is some amount of discomfort and pain while the procedure is in progress but they are generally tolerable. Also, the area where the injection is given may become sore due to the inherent nature of the bone marrow, but it fades away in a matter of few days.
Positive effects are also recorded after about 2 weeks of the BMC procedure. These include stronger and more stable bone health, improvement in strength of muscles around the injured bone area and decrease in pain. Recovery can take place faster if patients follow a strict diet as prescribed by the doctor, have a proper sleep schedule and engage themselves in various activities.

Why is BMC procedure used?

As mentioned above, bone marrow forms an important part of the body’s immune and healing system. It produces new blood cells and can replicate itself into different types of tissues as per the body’s requirements. So when you have any sort of an injury, or when it is found that your bones are weakening, the best way to regenerate them is to carry out the BMC procedure. Also, the best thing about the BMC procedure is that it works on the core area of the problem, thus helping the body to recover faster.

The only major downside of this treatment is that it is not covered under insurance since these companies consider it as experimental. Barring that, it is a very good treatment for certain bone-related diseases.
