Choosing Name Tags For Your Staff

In certain industries, name tags are a must. Most often, employees who work in retail or in hospitality, including hotels and restaurants, are required to wear name tags. This is due, in part, to the necessity of being able to accurately identify a team member, and also due to the high turnover rate of jobs within these industries. Managers spend a large portion of their budget purchasing, issuing, and replacing employee name tags, so it is a good idea to choose tags that are durable and even recyclable.
Disposable Name Tags: In the name of affordability, or in the case of a single use situation, disposable name tags can be ideal. These name tags are made of paper and have an adhesive backing. The staff member’s name is written on the tag using a pen or a marker, and at the end of the event, the name tags are removed and tossed in the trash.
Reusable Name Tags: Reusable name tags are issued as a part of an employee’s work uniform. They fasten to the uniform shirt with a pin, plastic clasp, or a magnet. Some managers opt to have their employee’s names engraved directly onto the name tag with a laser, while ...
... others use a label maker, print each employee’s name, and adhere it to the front of the name tag.
Materials: When choosing materials for your team’s name badges, consider sturdy plastic or metal.Plastic name tags are sturdy. These name badges will stand up to rigorous wear, which can be important in many industries. Reusable name tags are a popular option. Name tags that are in good condition can be recycled and used for future employees, as well. Another, less popular, material option is wood. Whether you choose plastic name tags, metal name tags, or wood name tags, you can opt to have the names engraved or adhered to the surface of the tag.
Shape and Color: When it comes to choosing the shape and color of your team’s name badge, the options are nearly endless. It is best to consider which type of name badge will coordinate well with your employee’s uniforms, and which style best represents your business.
Considerations: Before selecting new name tags for your team, be sure to think about the information that must be included on the tag. Some companies simply list the employee’s name on their reusable name tags. Other companies, however, must list the employee’s first name, last name, and even their job title. Choose a font size and style that reflects your business and allows you to fit all of the required information on the name tag.
