While the economy has its vice grips on many businesses one type of business has seen a steady growth over the last year. Boards up companies have grown from Mom and Pop shops that help against inclement weather to round the clock security companies and eviction officers. As the economy has forced many people living in and near Long Beach out of their homes, the board up business has thrived!

Many companies quickly made the transition from high-end kitchen and bath installers to board up company and are happy they did. Board up companies in the Long Beach, California area are typically making between $1,500 and $5,000 per job and working 5-10 jobs a week. Financial institutions who can't keep their properties in good condition face stiff fines from local communities as part of an effort to keep up neighboring home prices and keep out squatters, vandals and thieves. The costs associated with keeping a foreclosure from becoming a public nuisance and eye sore are high enough that it might be money better spent on providing potential buyers with more detailed information on the quality of a foreclosed property in order ...
... to move the home faster.

Contractors were quick to jump on this market and their resourcefulness is certainly paying off. With an estimated 35% of real estate listings made up of foreclosures and bank-owned homes, board up companies seem to popping up on every corner.

The sad reality is that this low is not the lowest predicted. The Long Beach area predicts that 30% or higher foreclosure rate will happen in 2009. Many people who have lost their jobs, or fallen to an illness have found it impossible to keep up with the soaring costs of owning a home. If you fear this may be you, the sooner you act on it the better. If you have fallen into pre foreclosure or are close to being there it is extremely important to reach out for advice from local groups, your lending institution or even a foreclosure attorney. They may be able to either offer some help or point you in the direction of someone who can. If you wait until the last minute, or to the point that you have 24 hours it is too late. A board up company will be certainly looming just around the corner.

Many cities such as Long Beach have preventative action groups that can help, but you must act quickly and be as proactive as possible in order to prevent the worst from happening.
