The Skoda Octavia Engine Offers Great Value For Money
The Skoda Octavia shares a platform with Volkswagen Golf and it has generous range of equipment on offer. An impressive driving dynamics and an advanced choice of engines make it a very decent choice. The spacious Octavia undercuts the luxurious Golf and still offers road tax exempt, sub 100g/km CO2 emissions. Octavia is right at the top of its class due to its very happy and satisfied customers. The Octavia has now started to look a little dated although it had a styling facelift done in 2009. This facelift gave it softer headlights. The standard model looks cheap in comparison to the VW Golf and doesn’t have alloy wheel or front fog lights. A conventional design doesn’t help either but to most loyalists it won’t matter.
Nonetheless, the options aren’t too heavy on your wallet, meaning more style can be added to the cars character. The best Skoda Octavia engine is the 1.4 litre engine with 79bhp. The 1.4 TSI engine is frugal and offers a lot of punch. It goes from 0-60mph in 9.7 seconds. The TDI engines, especially the 2.0 TDI 140 are superb. As it ...
... is based on the VW Golf, it means the handling is very good even though a bit hard at corners. The Octavia’s boot opens easily making loading and unloading very easy. The boot capacity is 585 litres which is bigger than Ford Mondeo or Vauxhall Insignia. The folded seats increase the boot capacity to 1,455 litres. A tough cabin completes a good value, practical package.
The Octavia only got four stars in the Euro NCAP crash test rating. It has four airbags and reliability isn’t an issue with Skoda. Skoda has come a long way as just two decades ago it was a laughing stock in the industry. The star of the show is the Skoda Octavia Greenline which manages road-tax exempt emissions of 99g/km and fuel consumption of 74.3mpg. Engines have been taken from VW Golf, with a line up of surprisingly economical petrol motors. The 2.0 litre TDI engines are the best all round performers. You get 59mpg and sprint to 60mph in less than 10seconds. Residual values are not as high as they can be as desirability is a sticking point.
The styling is very uninspiring and the cabin is dull and boring. A four start Euro NCAP rating doesn’t help either. Skoda Octavia is for sure good value for money and has a good engine range. Above all it is hugely practical. The latest Skoda Octavia takes a different path than most of the small hatchbacks. It is much more spacious inside than the VW Golf, Vauxhall Astra, Ford Focus, Audi A3 and Seat Leon. It doesn’t cost you a dime to run it and the range of standard equipment is nearly the same as Kida Cee’d or Hyundai i30. Fuel efficient engines plus an ultra efficient Greenline range make it very environmentally friendly. On the whole it is a high quality package that can’t be ignored.
