Waterworst Flooding Resulted In Substantial Water Damage Northern California

Northern California's weather conditions had always been tropical like but sometime in the past, the region was hit by winter storm which caused heavy flooding and mudslides that two counties had to be evacuated. According to observations, it had been the worst flooding event in two decades which resulted to substantial amount of water damage in several homes.
Water damage occurs when a home is exposed to large quantities of water and pressure over an extended period of time. Debris such as mud also adds to the amount of damage especially if it had begun to settle indoors. Aside from staining, decay of wooden parts such floors, wall partitions and even foundations can result.
The damage that these homes experienced was in different types and degrees. Some suffered immediate damage as strong currents of water and mudslides hit them. In one home, the damage was very extensive that only one room was left standing and it was missing a kitchen, two rooms and a bathroom. While in one home, the structure withstood water damage and would have not suffered any damage at all had a tree not plunged into it.
After ...
... heavy rains had stopped, it was after a while before homeowners could see the damages on their properties and start repairs. The standing water was too much that it was unsafe for homeowners to start repair.
In any flooding event, it is always import to allow standing water to recede before any repairs can be done. For sure, water have accumulated on the inside of homes and when water inside is drained, the pressure from the standing water outside can cause serious damage to a home's foundations. There will be no more opposite force from the inside to balance the pressure acting on the foundation walls.
While homeowner's are powerless to stop water damage from ruining one's own home in events when natural calamities are involved, homeowner's stand a better chance on avoiding costly repairs by making sure that a home is sturdy. Homeowners in the tropical-like areas such as Northern California tend to be not so much concerned about water damage since they almost have a dry climate all year round. Yet, the occasional downpours can actually cause small amounts of damages that when not repaired, can develop into a larger damage thereby weakening the home's structure.
A yearly check up by a professional should be done so that structures especially those made of wood in state of decay or rot can be repaired or replaced. Homeowner's should also pay much attention to crawlspaces and basements. These are the parts of the home that tend to be unnoticed but they are equally as important as the other parts of the house. Damage should be avoided in these parts since the foundation walls are located here. Any damage can lessen the foundation's sturdiness making the whole home susceptible to structural damage in flooding or any other similarly devastating natural calamity. These parts of the home should always be kept dry and ensured that waterproofing is properly applied on the walls below the surface.
