Developing Smart Applications For Android
Android apps development tutorial can help you develop applications even if you are an amateur. You can know about developing applications right from the start. In this tutorial you'll get to know how to install Android Software Development Kit (SDK) along with Eclipse ADT Plugin. You will also learn how to make a Hello World project. To know more, read on.
Conditions For Developing Android Applications
This tutorial is for developing applications with Windows 7 OS. Hence, if you are using some other operating system then the process may vary.
Ensure that you are using the latest Java Development Kit (JDK). If it is already not installed on your system then you can follow the installation instructions.
It is assumed that you have basic understanding of Java Programming and XML based script. If you do not have then you can search the Google to find a good tutorial.
Installing Android Software Development Kit
Download the latest Android SDK from the official site: developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Choose the package depending on your platform. (As I'm using Windows, so I choose ...
... android-sdk_rxx-windows.zip)
After the downloading process is completed, you can extract the package and save it in a location inside a folder in a drive. You can save it in any location. Hence, you have to ensure there is no space character in file path.
Then open SDK Manager and select what SDK Platform you want to install. You can also install add-ons, documentation, and code samples.
It is to be noted that if you face any problem while downloading SDK platform due to a slow connection or may be use it through office proxy server then you may download the SDK package directly from dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml and addons from dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/addon.xml using your web browser.
After this you could have completed Android SDK installation.
Installing Eclipse IDE and ADT Plugin
Download the latest Eclipse IDE from: eclipse. org/downloads/. You can use Eclipse IDE for Java Developers.
Once the download is complete, you can extract the package and save it in into a folder.
In the next step, open Eclipse IDE and select Window > Preferences.
Choose Android and set your SDK location. Then click on Apply and then OK.
In the next step, you should install Eclipse ADT plug in by choosing Help> Install New Software
Choose Add then Type Eclipse ADT in the Name field and dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/ for Location.
Then check Developer Tools and click Next for installation. Accept all agreements and follow the installation instructions.
At this step, you could have completed Eclipse IDE and ADT Plugin installation.
Making Hello, Android! Project
Prior to creating an Android Project, we have to make a Virtual Device. For this, open SDK Manager and select Virtual Devices. Then click New to create a new Virtual Device.
Set the options and click Create AVD.
Then, to open eclipse again, open File > New > Project and choose Android Project and then click Next. Fill the options and click Finish.
