Why A Cork Floating Floor Is A Good Buy
Floating cork floors are apt to run a little more expensive per square foot than its glue down counterpart, but often are recommended over the glue down type for its other advantages. Floating floors forgo the glued down or nailed down process and can easily be laid over an existing floor or subfloor. Just make sure the old floor is level, dry and clean. The glue down process is more cost and labor intensive and can also involve hiring a professional, whereas installing a floating floor is easy enough for beginning do-it-yourselfers. In the long run it can save you money.
Consider this. You just put in a new cork floor and are admiring its stunning appearance. The thought of it sustaining some type of damage hasn’t even crossed your mind. Still we know “stuff” happens all the time, usually at the most inconvenient moments, and of course tends to be more expensive than we can afford. Pretty much, "If it can go wrong, it will."
Fortunately, the flooring industry developed no-glue click together floor planks – an innovation that transformed do-it-yourself flooring. It eliminated not only the labor involved ...
... with gluing, nailing or stapling, but the cost of those materials as well. And more importantly, it made repair work practically effortless, even major ones.
If a few or more planks should become damaged, here is all you need to do:
1. Clear the area on the side of the room closest to the damaged plank(s)
2. Remove the base or quarter round molding
3. Disconnect the planking to the damaged area and replace the damaged plank(s)
4. Reconnect the original flooring planks
5. Remount the molding
6. Put you’re your room back together
Really, it’s that easy. The most difficult part of repairing a floating floor installation is probably moving the furniture. Compare that to having to scrape, dig and tear up glued down tiles, then cleaning and re-leveling the repair spot. Not to mention getting the glue and tiles re-laid, and waiting for them to dry.
Then there’s the off chance that you want to change your floor, let’s say twenty years down the road. Unlike glue down tiles, there’s no need to tear everything up and renovate the sub-floor. Nope. Just unclick the planks and sweep. Check your subfloor for any marring and install the new floor. Quick, easy and efficient.
If you like the thought of installing your own flooring, then Cork floating flooring is just the thing for you. To know more about how to install a Cork Floor , go to iCork Floor.
