A new era is dawning in Chelsea, brought about by the signing of Rafael Benítez as the club’s new manager. The club’s previous manager Robert Di Matteo was released from his duties following the team’s disgraceful defeat in the UEFA Champions League. Benitez’s first game was against Manchester City- the current Premier League Champions. Though the game ended in a draw, Chelsea managed to keep a clean sheet. One of the primary and significant differences that the revolution has brought forth is Fernando Torres return to stalwart form.

The Spanish footballer was the subject of many a ‘football player gone bad’ topic after his controversial name calling in 2011, when he referred to the older players active in the Chelsea team as ‘slow- moving’. Add to that his severe lack of game-potency this whole year and you get someone who talked the talk but did not walk the walk. But all that has changed after Benitez took charge to change the rag tag team of players and mold them into a unified, synchronized goal scoring machine. Last season alone, Fernando Torres has scored around thirteen goals in all of the seasons ...
... combined. He is finally doing full justice to that £50 million looming over his head.

It is not that Torres is a mediocre player and suddenly rose above and beyond following new management. No, as a matter of fact, going over Fernando Torres profile, it is quite plain as day that he was a true legend in his early twenties. The striker started his foot balling career with the Spanish club Atletico Madrid following which he joined Liverpool in 2007. The next year, he was named the ‘Premier League Player of the Month’ for scoring four goals including a stunning hat-trick. He came second to Cristiano Ronaldo in FWA Footballer of the Year award. During the 2009-2010 seasons, he scored five goals in September which made him the top goal scorer and earned him the title of the Premier League Player of the month. He finished the season with twenty two goals to his credit and having made thirty two appearances. This helped him become Liverpool’s top scorer for the second time in a row. Fernando Torres statistics the following season made him a prime candidate for transfer to Chelsea which he officially completed on 31 January 2011 for a staggering amount of Euro 50 million that made him the sixth most expensive footballer in history. For all of his fans who have been waiting for Torre’s to make a comeback, brace yourself, because he has arrived.
