Garden Sheds 101 – Key Things To Consider
A garden shed is a must for almost every home. As its name suggests, this unit is the home of items used for and in the garden. However, it can also be utilized to store other things unrelated to gardening. If you are thinking of having your own shed, know that you have several things to consider.
The first thing you should think about is the use of the unit. Are you an avid gardener? Will you be using the unit often as you get and return tools like rakes and spades? Or are you planning to have a shed for storage purposes only? Determining the use of the structure is the primary consideration because everything else is tied to it—design, building material and location, just to name a few.
If you love to garden and will be using the shed often, not only are you are going to need ample space but also pathways and paving. You also need to make sure the materials chosen for building is durable enough to withstand frequent use.
The next thing you need to decide on is whether you will be building the garden shed yourself or buying a ready-made one. If you like working with your hands and have successfully ...
... finished a number of do-it-yourself projects, there is no reason for you not to build your own shed from scratch. Surely, you will find fulfilment in erecting your own shed.
Should you decide to build your own garden shed, prepare to choose from a variety of construction materials. There is plastic and metal, but wood remains the most popular choice for garden sheds. Timber in particular is the wood mostly used for construction. What you use to build with comes down to personal preference, but when you choose, make sure to think about location and environmental factors.
If you are not much of a builder, it would be better for you to buy a pre-fabricated kit. Getting such kit saves you from the troublesome part of shed construction, but you would still need to put together the pieces of the shed correctly.
Lastly, there is the matter of location. Choosing where to put the shed is very important. Before deciding on a particular site, familiarize yourself with your area's building requirements first. Do not put the shed in an area that collects water or else mould and mildew will grow in the structure and the items stored in it. Also, ensure your chosen spot gets enough sun and wind. Think convenience when deciding on where to erect the shed—if you put the shed too far away from your house or garage, you will be tiring yourself as you go back and forth to store things in it.
