Why Should You Go On A Normandy French School Trip?
The idea of going to France without your family may seem like a strange one. Yet every year some school children will do just this, as part of their French for schools programme. Normandy is a popular area to go to, but there are other destinations for school children to visit as well. A lot will depend on whether the trip is just for the day or whether it is for a week or so.
In either case there are many reasons why this kind of trip is well worth going on. For starters it means you will be visiting France itself, perhaps for the first time. A Normandy French school trip is nothing if not memorable, and the fact you would be visiting with your French class instead of with your parents is a major step forward in your life.
But there are other reasons you should think about too, instead of focusing merely on the idea of going away abroad without your parents. You may have heard the idea of immersive learning before. This is intensive learning that goes way beyond the idea of learning in a classroom. Let’s face it, classroom based learning can be boring at times. The idea of going to France and reading the language ...
... and hearing people speak it – not to mention speaking it yourself – is the complete opposite of this. It means you can enjoy getting more involved with your learning.
Many French people will recognise why you are there and will offer advice and support as well. They will realise you may be trying to speak French for the first time in a real life situation, and most people will be patient and speak more slowly as a result. This means you can enjoy having a go at ordering something at a restaurant or cafe, or perhaps asking for directions. It becomes easier and gives you more confidence with every little battle you manage to win in this way.
Speaking in the classroom is one thing, but speaking French with a French person is quite another. It may be daunting at first but you will be surprised how quickly you can become better at it. The trick is to persevere and if you can do this you will learn to be more successful and confident in speaking in the future.
French for schools is an essential part of the school curriculum. But a trip abroad beats anything you could learn in the classroom, purely because you are able to experience the language in a completely different way. So don’t worry if the idea of going to France makes you nervous to begin with. It is quite natural to feel like this, and the first time you attempt to speak French may be nerve wracking too. But in the end you will excel and succeed in your aims to speak the language, and you will be glad you had the courage to try speaking it that very first time in France.
