Organic food is the buzz-word for all health conscious people today. Organically grown food items are considered healthier both for individuals and the environment. There are certain guidelines that are followed in the organic medium of growing food.

More and more people are gravitating towards incorporating organic food into their daily diets. The reason is that personal health has become a serious issue in modern society. Work life is full of stress in terms of time consumed and challenges faced. Personal lives are more complicated with lack of quality time available to spend with loved ones. The end result is that the health of individuals is suffering as comfort foods like junk food and calorie rich bakery products gain preference. There is no time and inclination in today’s world to take care about nutritional needs.

Slowly, after suffering from numerous health problems and paying hefty amounts in medical bills, people have come to realize that high calorie synthetic food is to blame for their poor health. Now, health stores have taken the lead in bringing healthy organically grown foods closer to the consumer. ...
... So, what is organic food?

Organic is basically the term used for a specific way in which food is grown and processed. The organic medium of growing food looks at various factors like the safety of soil in which seeds are sown, no genetic modifications are allowed and the produce is kept separate from conventional products. Sewage sludge-based and petroleum-based fertilizers are a big no-no, along with synthetic pesticides.

Food items grown and processed organically have more beneficial nutrients. These foods contain more antioxidants to cleanse your system. Organic items also reduce cases of food allergies as people are often susceptible to reactions from the residual chemicals in conventionally grown food. Conventionally cultivated agricultural, dairy and meat produce is prone to exposure to very harmful pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, herbicides and fungicides.

When it comes to organic meat and dairy products the livestock is given only organic feed and open access to the outdoors. These animals are never administered with any animal-by-products, growth hormones or antibiotics. Since antibiotics are never given to organically raised animals, they do not develop any antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. This benefits meat eaters as during any illness caused from these strains, people will not be less responsive to antibiotic treatment. Organic meat and dairy produce reduce risk of mad cow disease and other illnesses. Since the organic livestock is allowed free movement, the animals do not live in a confined space and are consequentially free from sickness.

You must have realized how much better fresh food always tastes. Well, organic food is usually fresher than conventionally grown items. And so, organic food tastes better. This is because it does not contain preservatives to make it edible for a longer time. It is eaten sooner and is hence always fresher!

The organics medium of growing food is kind to the environment in many ways. It reduces soil, water and air pollution levels. Soil fertility increases due to organic farming and more water is conserved. The organic medium also utilizes less power in cultivating food. Because chemical pesticides are not used, birds and small animals too are safe to co-exist and reproduce.

The animal produce from the organics medium is also more nutritious and fresh, having the same healthier benefits. The freedom from using harmful chemicals is good for the health of the farmers themselves. And of course at the level of the consumer of organically grown food, the immense benefits are passed on. It is a winning situation all around.
