New properties seem to be getting smaller and smaller each year. It makes sense, as the population grows, for land to be more in demand and in turn more expensive and for there to, in general, be less space to build new property on.

However, as the average size of new properties reduces, many people are finding that smaller can actually in some ways be better, and are actively looking for bijou premises over vast sprawling mansions.

There are many benefits to smaller properties – lower costs, less maintenance, cheaper to power and far easier to clean - and as such people are not as bothered about size when it comes to property as they once were. Furthermore, modern contemporary furniture tends to be smaller and more compact than traditional furniture and as such it is much easier than ever before to populate one’s house with all the attractive furniture that is needed and still have plenty of space free to play with.

Smaller homes do not have to be less attractive and, in many ways, with a small house it is likely to be easier to keep a cohesive sense of style inside, being that you might only need a ...
... few choice pieces of contemporary furniture to keep any theme running throughout, rather than desperately trying to fill space with things that simply aren’t needed.

In fact, for most people, the only real problem caused by smaller homes is storage. Yet, again, this can be easily remedied, especially if the property has a cellar or attic, and with numerous ingenious storage solutions on the market that make far better use of space and any ordinary unit, there will be plenty of ways to ensure that you can have all the space you need in a smaller home, and reap the many benefits as a result.
