Pros And Cons Of Using Curtains With Lining
When you search for curtain online, one questions that pops in to your mind instantly is – should I look for window curtain with lining or without lining? It is possible to buy thicker cotton curtains as well as jacquard or velvet fabrics that do not require any lining, they are thick enough to block sunlight and have a good drape. However, with thinner fabrics a lining becomes a must not only to restrict the amount of light that filters in to the room, but also for the curtain to have a great drape and flow.
The biggest advantage of using lined window curtain can be that they block both sound and light. However, that can also be a con if you are choosing window curtains online because some lining fabrics can be so flimsy that they do not do this job effectively. Lined drapes of good quality, like D Decor curtains or Bombay dyeing curtains will drape well, will insulate the room and also restrict the amount of light and sound that comes through but you need to make sure of few things. Always choose a neutral colour lining. Neutral ...
... coloured lining for your window curtain can keep the pattern from showing on the outside, which makes for a neat exterior appearance. Also, these will let the pattern itself be highlighted because, rather than interfering with the detailing on the curtain itself. However, on the other hand, if you are using flimsy georgette or net sheer drapes for your living room, a thicker lining of velvet or cotton in a bold colour can actually become the backdrop to accentuate the print on the sheer curtain. It gives the front curtain more substance and texture and also adds an element of interest and contrast. In such a case, make sure that the colour chosen for the lining drapes is the accent colour in your net floral print curtains. For example – if you have net or organza curtains with a white base and maroon floral design on it, the base lining curtain should be maroon for the design to be highlighted.
The main function of door and window curtain is to offer you privacy and that function is perfectly achieved by using lining. However, it also increases the cost of the curtain online remarkably, so don’t make this decision lightly. If you feel the cotton curtains or velvet ones you are choosing are thick enough, putting a lining fabric behind it will not serve any functional purpose but only increase cost. On the other hand, in case the window has not been treated for reflecting back sunlight and allows a lot of light to come through, you might need to put lining behind cotton curtains, no matter how thick they originally are, because direct exposure to sunlight can fade away the colours in the window curtain much faster. However, when buying door curtains online in the same design and fabric, the lining is never necessary.
If you are keen on using floral print curtains in fabrics, like say cotton curtains for your bathroom, using a water proof lining can be very beneficial. A waterproof liner with a fabric bathroom curtain on the outside can give a bathroom a designer look.
